1967 Mustang Galaxie: You Figure It Out

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This tip is far too weird for me not to take, from the photos, which make the car look like it’s rocketing downhill (see the ad here on eBay), to the mechanicals, which I’ll describe below, to the ad copy, which you just have to read for yourself. Anyway, if you’ve got a spare $17 grand and feel like shoving it into a hole you’ll never dig it out of, this “former dirt star,” now masquerading as a 1967 Mustang Fastback, might be for you. You are available to go to Pittsboro, NC, to collect it, aren’t you?

What is this car, exactly? Well, if you mean what is the chassis, then that’s a 1965 Ford Galaxie 500. If you mean the body panels, then that’s a 1967 Mustang. Except for the front valance, apparently. On the good side, if you’re entering this car in a race, is that it is rigidly constructed and nearly impossible to destroy, if all of the cited specs about the body, the cage, and the car’s rigidity are verified. If you want the rear axle, though, that’s extra. Like $1400. And to add to the cost, various engine options are suggested, each of which seems more a reach than the last. Read the ad to see what this refers to.

So why would you buy this car? Because you’re into a challenge. Because you have more money than you know what to do with. Because you don’t care how bizarre the ad is, and it’s plenty bizarre. In fact, though I’ve been writing about cars for three decades and I’m fairly adept at technical stuff, I don’t understand 75% of what’s said here or why what’s said is said. Perhaps the idea is to get someone to dream. I’m pretty sure waking up from that dream would lead to some pain.

For example: “Price is for someone just taking it.” Huh? But if that’s you, be forewarned: you will have to do some serious work to get this car running, and even then, what will you have? I assume a vehicle that’s fit for local short-track racing. You Barn Finders can correct me if you think this Galaxie-Mustang is headed for highway use anytime soon. Actually, the ad writer does say what this could be: “Hot rod, rat rod, or something epic.” And if you want further involvement with the ad’s writer, and the seller, have him build a Boss Nine for the car. After all, he has built over 600 426 Hemi engines. Do the math on that: that’s a Hemi every week for a decade. Or you can build a 427 side-oiler because after all, Mickey Thompson did it, and it’s not complicated. I think you get the idea. But if you want an experience, then dive in.

    Wow.
    $17000.
    Without all the parts included.
For that you could buy both a decent rebuildable ‘65 Galaxie AND ‘67 ‘Stang with most of the necessary included parts (perhaps sans drivetrains) and still have something you could resell later without the nightmare of trying to explain to your favorite DMV of what the Hell the thing is really supposed to be.
But then again it just goes to show that

Interestingly, his eBay rating is 100% and it looks like he sells more than he buys. While there is only one recent auction other than this GalaxStang, the description of that other item is also fairly “out there.”

So a 1967 Mustang and a 1965 Galaxie were both destroyed to create this monstrosity. Nice.

Doubtful that anything was destroyed that wasn’t already junk. Coming from a racing family I’ve seen 5 builds that didn’t destroy any car. Body was probably already rusted out, frame is more than likely front clip only with square tube frame running back from the firewall. Rear suspension is fabricated with a locked 9″ Ford differential. That’s how we did it. Our last dirt limited late model was a 72 Camaro front frame with a fabricated chassis and a Chevy lumina body. Camaro clip came from a car in the junkyard that was wrapped around a tree.

He’s going to learn that all that hard work put into it isn’t going to yield anywhere close to $17K (changing out the hubs, 2 speed rear, new valance etc.) They would be better off parting it out and selling the pieces. But hey – we live in a land of dreams..

It’s just an old school dirt racecar. No it won’t ever see the street again. Yes it’s overpriced but what’s the history? Did a nascar legend drive it before he became a nascar legend? I come from a racing family and I owned a Malibu stockcar that was driven by davey Allison. Not uncommon to mix body and chassis parts. My last dirt car was half 73 Camaro, half tube frame chassis with a Chevy lumina body.

“Watching” isn’t the same thing as “interested” though… I suspect in this case, it’s as close to FaceBook’s “laughing [probably not in a nice way]” reaction emoji.

I’m one of those watchers who will be astonished if someone actually jumps in with real money.

Just to add, I took a close look at that roll cage. To preface this, I was involved with northeast modified racing for many years back in the ’80s and ’90s. No way in hell am I getting onto a track in a car with a cage with welds like that and the lack of bracing. That car frightens me.

You left out that it’s a cage with no bends, no fish mouth fitting of joints and no diagonal brace in the main (??) hoop. Scary yup.

I’ve never heard of any racecar having a truck 2 speed rear end.

I’m wondering if this was reskinned at one time or maybe it was partially built and never completed ? Stock car racing on the short tracks (both dirt and asphalt) is a contact sport and by the end of a season the bodies are usually pretty well banged up , yet the seller says the body is all original . There is no way this car raced without any contact damage .

Folks, you should take an hour, or two, to look into some of the seller’s credentials: even his credentials have credentials. It makes for some fascinating reading, and my curiosity was triggered by one line in his Ebay advert: “The chassis and cage are like a rock. Stick welded , impossible to cut or even grind”. My first thought was WHAT?? Get outa here! I’d been skipping through that advert, so decided to read a bit more thoroughly, and was intrigued enough to put Google to work, and does he ever have an amazing story! I was blown away.

Believe me, I could spend days on his website, and I’m not a Mopar guy. The business name in near the bottom of the Ebay ad, so Goole away. I’m glad I did. Ah, hell, I’ll save you thea trouble; here it is: http://www.arruzzahighperformance.com/

More, and more, each time I post, I miss the “edit” button.

Morley, he’s had a huge involvement with half (or more) of the notable names in experimental racing engine development, managed, through sheer guts and determination, and, I would wager, a lot of deep thinking, to complete the dreams of others, has TWO girlfriends, and is only 45! HE IS LIVING THE DREAM, AND HAS BEEN, FOR YEARS ! !

He is my hero. He has prevailed over unlimited funding, loads of engineering expertise, the pooh-poohers, the nay-sayers, massive computer time (I would think), AND HE HAS TWO GIRLFRIENDS !

I swear, to God, that I am sitting here, LMAO.

C5, he is too busy accomplishing things to worry about somebody’s sore neck. My photos, half the time, are turned around, too.

You folks, that are dismissive, are missing a great story. I can hardly type, for laughing with delight. I sure wish I had the ability to add a laugh-track to this posting.

I hope I didn’t get this seller in trouble with his wife, as it is Bill McCoskey that posted, on the Bentley page, the info about 2 girlfriends. Mr Arruzza is still my hero, and so is Bill McCoskey.

I tender my most abject apologies to these two gentlemen, to Barn Finds, and to all Barn Finds readers, and do hope that no one is permanently confused.

Now I understand what you were talking about on the Bentley listing !!!

This switched comments made both Pepper and Nikki laugh big time, just when they needed a laugh, as Nikki’s little dog of 14 years suddenly developed renal failure, and had to be gently put to sleep by the vet this morning. So your little switcheroo created some good feelings for us, thanks!

I have property in Pittsboro…let me just say that there are a bunch of retired race guys (predominately dirt, circle, & NASCAR) in the area. Not to mention the amount of vintage parts & pieces-

So this doesn’t surprise me. But how much is hyperbole is open to interpretation

Dear thruple (Bill, Pepper and Nikki), & other readers:

You are most welcome, and I am still splitting my sides. I am glad that some readers looked deeper into this impressive story. While I feel foolish for making such a huge flopper, I’m glad you found it amusing, too.

I went back & forth through the postings and his Ebay advert, and some Google results, and I think he is the real deal, and doesn’t have time to worry about how his statements are taken. We could use more Heros (Heroes?), and more chuckles.

Thanks to all. I am so glad that I found BF, at exactly the same time as I found BaT tiresome and irking (if that is a word). Actually, I guess the word is irksome. Great site, and great people.

    OCG,

“While I feel foolish for making such a huge flopper, I’m glad you found it amusing, too”.

We all make these mistakes, just this past week on another website I mentioned how I don’t remember seeing another DeSoto-Plymouth dealership except for the one I used in the 1990s for my restoration shop. It was quickly pointed out that ALL Chrysler Corp franchises had Plymouths. Whoops! Should have done more research!

“I went back & forth through the postings and his Ebay advert, and some Google results, and I think he is the real deal, and doesn’t have time to worry about how his statements are taken. We could use more Heros (Heroes?), and more chuckles”.

I suspect we both are not very familiar with US dirt track racing*, and we only saw what was left of the car, thinking it was simply a butchered combination of vehicles. I also visited his website and was quite impressed. When he mentions customers who are well-known like Goldberg, We can generally rely on the info being correct, or the persons mentioned would be calling for the website to remove their info. *I was familiar with dirt track racing in 1970s Germany, but the only thing they really have in common is it’s dirt track oval!

Over several decades of dealing with wealthy clients, both public and private, I knew how valuable those contacts are, & complete client privacy is expected. 35 years ago I began supplying antique cars and spare parts to a wealthy client in the middle east [US friendly] who happened to be the country’s ruling Monarch. While he has been dead for a very long time, and I have photographs of most of his incredible [around 500+ cars] antique car collection, I have never divulged his name, nor will I publish the photos without permission from the current Monarch or his government.
