Larry D. sent us this 1968 Chevrolet short bed stepside pickup truck that is for sale here on eBay. The truck was recently restored as a work truck so it is powerful and comfortable for daily driving. However, the seller admits that he did not spend much on the paint. The truck looks great and very solid. Any rust that the truck was suffering from was taken care of during the restoration. There are 6 days remaining in the auction. The truck is located in Salem, Virginia and is currently bid to $12,600. I would expect the sale price to be much higher once buyers take a look at the work that has been done.
While Chevrolet did not equip their C10 pickups with 350 cuibc inch V8 engines until 1969, the owner selected this nice dependable engine for this build. The engine is said to have plenty of power and was painted outside the engine. Before instyallation, the owner put new wires, plugs, engine gaskets, alternator, distributor, fuel pump, intake and a 4 barrel carburetor on the engine. The seller states that the engine starts after one pat on the accelerator and does not smoke on start up. A factory fan shroud and brass 3 core radiator cool the engine.
The interior was also restored with new partial floor pans and new seat cover and foam. The floor mat was replaced and the gauge cluster is a thing of beauty with every gauge hole filled including a factory looking tachometer (not working). Along with new wiring, the truck has the correct spare and tire jack. The owner installed an oak wood bed using a pre cut kit that is starting to weather. The original gas tank was cleaned and reused. The body of the truck got a lot of new parts including the fenders and rear stepsides.
The frame was cleaned and painted during the restoration. The seller discloses that he bought the truck as a project to keep his mind off the passing of his father in 2019. The weatherstripping and front windshield was replaced, too. With new bumpers and many other new parts, I am sure the seller has more than the current price invested in this truck. I would be nice to buy a truck like this and just drive and enjoy it.
How nice is this one? Gets the “just right” award.
Maybe if it had a nice paint job, instead of primer.
It looks nice anyway, maybe I’d paint it a real flat gray.
I wouldn’t even consider it unless I had a fleetside bed on hand. IMHO the only GM trucks the stepside bed looks good on are ’59 and older – there’s something about the fairly square, wide cabs of ’60up trucks that don’t look right with the narrow bed and bulgy fenders of the stepside. Call me weird but I’d take a longbed fleetside of any year over a short stepside.
With that said it’s a sweet but sparsely equipped truck with lots of work done however at current $ I’d expect a finish other than flat black only. I’ve been a big fan of this gen GM trucks for decades. As recently as today I commuted in my ’71 K5 to work so I can attest these trucks are still fully usable daily drivers if one’s like me and prefers the simple lifestyle
Ok…weird!
I don’t really care much for green on most vehicles… but… Pale green, white top ,bumpers & rims + Those period aluminum centers yeah and one for that spare too. Book it , done. I don’t really care much for green on most vehicles tho
seems to have alot of ’embellishments’ compared to the 1 I drove yrs on the farm (same yr, farm truck green, but “K”). Only got stuck once (in the way back) as the sno plow frame dug in tendin fence. Hada use the jack’n a fence board from the 50 in the bed.
Step side’s got it all over the flat side for looks & as off roader. Fav vehicle isa ’73/9 F250 4WD short bed step side (even over most cars) w/2 18 inch race stripes’n some 17×10.50×33 inch mudders…
