“Good Going MG Midget” went the ad (see it here along with other Midget TV commercials). I remember that line when I was a kid, and it worked for me when I had a white 1970 Midget while I was in college. I sold it to buy an engagement ring (good decision)! This Midget is located in La Porte City, Iowa and is for sale here on eBay with bidding opening at $2,500 without a reserve. Midgets offered a lot of fun per dollar then and still do even now. This one has wire wheels and the cleaner chrome bumpers, as well as a more traditional dashboard than the later cars have. Said to run and drive but with some smoke, I’m guessing the 1275cc A-series four-cylinder could use a little work, although it may just be stuck rings from disuse (I can hope, right?). What worries me more than the smoke is the layer of body filler that covers the lower part of the front valence. Considering the hood is in primer and the propensity of these cars to receive front body damage due to the low bumpers, I would look closely at the front of the car. However, $2,500 isn’t a lot of money for two seat motoring, but I’d be asking the seller where the top frame is!
I like it! Especially for the fact that it has overdrive. That’s one feature I really wish I had in my B and I bet it’s really nice to have in one of these. Good find Jamie!
Used sheet metal for these is pretty readily available, and I don’t think the front valence would be much trouble to simply replace. The real possibility that could be worrisome is any chassis damage underneath. Nor is it much of a job to rebuild an A-Series engine….
I’ve never had to service an LdN overdrive — though I had two cars that had them — But everything else is straightforward. To really do this up right will set the new owner back a buck or two, but the fun of driving one is priceless!
The price makes me feel old, though: my Frogeye cost me a mere $75 back in ’72, and it ran fairly well. A friend had a Midget with a mangled transmission that he gave me so I could swap the 1275 engine, front discs and wire wheels onto the Sprite, which I never did.

interesting car at a nice price. i would have to see what work was done to make the overdrive fit. i do not think there is room for it and i do think the already short drive line would be too short. nice find
