1970 Dodge Dart for $1,600

1970 Dodge Dart

From David F – Here’s a 1970 Dodge Dart with less than 40,000 miles for only $1600. It even has factory air. There’s no apparent rust and the body looks pretty nice except for the left front fender. Even the interior is decent in it’s own plastic covered bench seat sort of way. The Mopar slant six engines were very reliable. This could either just be driven like it is or it would make a great sleeper, wouldn’t it? There are lots of parts for these A body cars, including brake and suspension parts, so this could be made into a real performer. It can be found here on craigslist in Long Island, New York.

I see a few things which may indicate that it’s not an ‘untouched’ and ‘low’ mileage car….A closer inspection is needed for sure……

I saw one just like this going down I84 in Boise yesterday……..it was full of the drivers lifetime belongings with only room for the driver………….looked like it had been home for a while.

the price is down to $1100 . interior looks a bit ruff for 38+k. is that heavy rust in the trunk picture? I suspect there is more than the stated mileage. Under 40k and the engine looks not well cared for. How do you get rust on an air cleaner?

would need to be checked for rust. but this looks like a lot of car for $1100. which is equal to about 3 monthly payments on a new car these days. make it safe and drive it until something costly breaks then part it out. great find.

I have no problem believing this car is a true low mileage vehicle. Although it’s dirty and has clearly never been some ones pride and joy, there is a ‘crispness’ about the interior controls and upholstery that cannot be faked. Dart’s were cheap cars, and although the engine and transmission were good for 200K, the interiors were wiped out by 100K. The minor surface rust in the trunk (in an area under the original trunk mat that would normally be shredded by 100K and wasn’t exactly conducive to keeping the metal dry) and the engine are pretty common in north eastern vehicles left outside for nearly a half century. Offer $1K. Spend $400 for cheap tires and brakes. Then drive it 3 years with no further expense other than gas. A slant 6 dart will give you mid 20’s at the pump. At the end of 3 years you’d still have a $1k car to sell to the next guy.
