1971 Porsche 914 Barn Find

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

When reader and fellow barn finder Joe B sent us his recent find, we knew we needed to share it. Not because his find is super rare or in incredible condition, but simply because the proceeds are going to a good cause. Joe found this 1971 Porsche 914 in a little old ladies barn, where it had been since 1978. She sadly lost her husband to cancer and is in the process of selling off her property, so the car had to go.

While he was helping her, he found the car parked in the barn. And while it’s in rough shape, he didn’t want to see it go to the scrap yard. He asked if he could buy it and paid the woman $300 for it. He wants to sell the car for whatever he can get, and donate all the money to the American Cancer Society. He doesn’t care about making a profit or recouping his cost, he just wants to see the car go to a good home while helping fight cancer.

Joe’s find is in rough shape, but it could be salvageable. If it is complete, then it’s worth at least $300 for parts alone. It would be sad to see it parted out, but it would not only save another 914’s life, but also help save the life of someone who’s fighting cancer. If your in the market for a 914 or just want to help out, send us an email and we will get you in contact with him. Our special thanks go out to Joe for sharing his find with us and we wish him the best.

Joe sounds like a great guy, and altho the car looks to be in tough shape, someone will probably want to buy it for more than the $300 he paid for it.

It looks like the car probably has its engine given the way it’s sitting on the hauler, correct?

Any info available on where the car is located now, to help people decide whether they’re interested in buying and transporting it?

If that’s an old Ohio license plate on there and/or he’d like to bring it up to the Glenmoor Gathering next weekend in all of its barn-find glory, we’ll donate a spot for it across our auction block – no entry fee, no commissions, all to benefit the ACS.

That’s awesome, Chip! Let us know how this one turns out! I love these old Porsches, and I’d be interested if it weren’t for the fact that I’m in AZ and broke! Also, being 6’3″, I wouldn’t fit!

I am also 6’3″ – but I have it on good authority that we will have at least two bidders who like Porsches, want to fight cancer, are under 5’10” and aren’t doing anything else this winter.

Laddies………..6’3″ will fit…………now, if you are just plain big, or fat, or both, that’s is a different subject. At 6’1″ I fit no problem and have been involved in teeners for decades…………
I didn’t bring up foot size………..we know where that goes…………….

Update – Joe has the 914 rolling thanks to the help of local friends. Passport Transport has kicked in half of the haul and we are looking for sponsorship for the other $400. If you or your company want to help facilitate a great cause and get recognition for same when this car hits the auction block in a week’s time, please contact me ASAP (above) as I’m actively soliciting this sponsorship opportunity elsewhere.

Thanks for the reinforcement and the assistance to benefit such a great cause as the ACS!

Even in the name of charity that estimate is very optimistic, but I hope you get anywhere near that.
For the car, for the charity and hopefully for the new owners all the best.

@ Barn Finds: Do you need help keeping up the postings ??
