1972 Chevrolet Rally Nova + Parts Car

Project Novas tend to come in all shapes and stages, but occasionally a package deal shows up that offers more than just a starting point. This listing on eBay includes a 1972 Chevrolet Nova roller along with a 1971 Nova parts car, giving the next owner a mix of components and potential directions depending on how the build is approached. This also appears to be a Rally Nova which was basically just a visual package but that does make this project a bit more interesting.

The primary car is the 1972 Nova, described as a roller and originally built as a V8 automatic car. It carries VIN 1X27H2L161552 and is said to have been finished from the factory in Orange Flame with a black vinyl interior and bench seat. While it no longer has an engine, it does retain a 10-bolt rear end, which is a useful piece for anyone planning a period-style rebuild or a performance-oriented project. The Rally Nova package added Rally wheels, stripes, and blacked out trim.

Included in the package is a 1971 Nova shell, identified by VIN 113271W109065. This second car is being offered primarily for parts and is noted to include several usable structural and trim components. The seller highlights items such as the cowl, firewall, roof skin, pillars, and rear window sill, along with front and rear glass and associated trim. A steering column and some interior pieces are also mentioned as part of the deal.

The 1971 car was originally finished in Cottonwood Green with a Dark Jade interior, though its main role here is clearly as a donor to support the restoration or completion of the 1972 model. Having a parts car alongside a project can make a significant difference, especially when dealing with vehicles where certain components are getting harder to source individually.

In addition to the two cars, the sale also includes new AMD sheet metal pieces, specifically a trunk pan and a rear bumper panel. Those parts can help address some of the common problem areas on these cars and may save time compared to tracking them down separately.

Both vehicles are being offered with bills of sale rather than titles, and the seller notes that they are open to discussing the sale of each car individually if needed. Assistance with loading and possible delivery are also mentioned. The lack of titles may make things difficult depending on your State so do your research before bidding.

For someone looking to build a Nova from the ground up, or complete a project with a built-in supply of extra parts, this combination offers a practical starting point. It’s not a finished car by any means, but it does bring together many of the pieces that typically take time to gather. Does the Rally Nova package make this one interesting enough to justify the effort?

My favorite year! I’ve been negotiating with a fellow with a similar car for several years but he still won’t turn loose of it. It isn’t near this bad though. He’s afraid someone will buy it and crush it or turn it into a race car so very reluctant to sell it. I’m afraid he’ll pass away and who ever is in charge of his estate will send it too the crusher. It has set in his driveway for 20 years and isn’t getting any better but is still restorable.

Yikes about the floors on both cars. Might need a third car to make one.

Ralley Nova…meh. Not a bad looking car but nothing special performance wise. Best years for Nova this iteration were 69-70. Stock 350 250 HP great runners if you added hi rise, Holley 4b and headers with duals. After that compression dropped and they didn’t run nearly as strong. Aah…those days are gone forever.

i see 2 cars with a ton of rust and a lot of metal work and i bet there is rust we don’t even see. better to get 1 car needing no metal work. it’s not like the car has the optional center folding top just a decal kit. there is better out there.
