1972 Chevy Camaro: Classic Driver

1972 Chevrolet Camaro

When I think of Camaros like this 1972 model here on craigslist for $5,900, two things come to mind: bumpers and horsepower. The constant battle for horsepower in the ’70s and into the ’80s as fuel efficiency and the energy crisis came into focus left the Camaro and Firebird (along with the other muscle car stalwarts) with fewer and fewer horses, leading to a bruised ego for these once-proud drag-strip dominators. Then, the feds levied new rules regarding safety, leading to heavier bumpers that could withstand upgraded crash standards. Despite all of this, this example looks like a car that could easily be brought back to driver quality if the claims of no-rust hold true. The interior could use a cleaning and potentially some new seating surfaces, but otherwise, I’d say this one is worth a closer look.

I always liked these Camaros in the Chevy Orange with black stripes. Chevy did a better job with their 70 to 72 Camaros than Ford did with the 71 to 73 Mustang IMO. This one may make a nice daily driver if the motor turns out to be salvageable.

Oh, do i love this one, had a 73 Type LT exactly like this one, Dark Green, black inside with a 350 4 bbl LT1, with 4 speed. Wish i kept it, i miss That car so much, did my wedding trip with it. I still have a picture of it in my wallet today.

Unless I’m missing something, the price seems steep based on the condition. This is going to need major interior, major exterior and who knows what to the drive train? Why was it parked? Meanwhile, I’ve seen these things listed in great condition for under $20K. If I’m wrong here, someone please correct me.

Ad says column shift… But I see a console and no column shift lever. I also am very surprised no AC on an Arizona car. By 72 AC was pretty common, still an expensive option, but pretty much mandatory in the desert heat.
The car does look solid, I think it is a fair price

Ad’s gone. A little old lady had a green 70 here with column shift. Just a plain Camaro with the 70 only rear spoiler.
