1972 Chubb Pathfinder: Pennies Per Pound!

right

Charles H found this Chubb Pathfinder Firetruck listed on craigslist for $9450, not bad for over 48,000 pounds of steel! This would have to be the ultimate what would my wife say if I brought this home vehicle short of an airliner! Most of these airport fire trucks are Oshkosh trucks like the one we featured a month ago but this beast is English. The company grew out of Aerators Ltd, which patented the first chemical fire extinguishers and was founded in 1881. This fire truck is powered by a 16 cylinder Detroit 2 stroke diesel. It weighs 22 tons and is over 37′ feet long!

What would one do with this except use it at a smaller airport or in a volunteer fire department? Recently, an Oshkosh fire truck was made into an incredible camper. The 3500 gallon water tank would provide lots of showers and flush the toilets for a long while. The O2 bottle friendly seats are a nice touch. I suspect one would go through the contents of the 106 gallons of fuel quicker than you would like. What would your significant other say if you brought this home?

That’s cool. My wife would make me live in the thing. Expensive to maintain and drive. Is it even street legel? Cut the top off and have a swimming pool on wheels.

Now there is an idea! Not the living in it, but the pool on wheels idea! Maybe you could rent it out for parts to help offset the cost of ownership?
