1972 Honda 600 Coupe Package Deal

Honda sold approximately 20,500 of the model 600 Coupe in 1972. There’s two of them listed as a package deal here on craigslist in Bloomington, IL for $3,500. The owner thinks that between the 2 cars you can piece together one nice vehicle. That do you think?

We don’t know if either engine is present, runs, or even spins. The dash looks clean and these cars may have also been part of the “ran when parked” fleet.  The owner doesn’t mention this in the ad.

'72 600 back seat

Yes there is even a “back seat”.  We don’t know how many cubic feet are in the back, but the owner says that if you are over 6 feet tall then you probably won’t find this a comfortable ride. Two for one, a small footprint, and there are probably not many, if any, in your neighborhood. Are you up for this project?

Motor-on,
Robert

In the spring of 1972 I was working at a Toyota dealer in Schenectady, NY. They decided to sell Hondas as well and one of my co-workers bought one of these cars. We named it rindindindindindin after the sound of the engine. We used to go down to Connecticut on the weekends to see a couple of girls we were dating. We’d be on the interstate headed toward Massachusetts and when we’d hit a long hill that car with the two large guys and their stuff would slow way down and cars would fly by with folks pointing. To give folks a laugh we’d open the door and extend our outboard legs out the door and make motions with our legs like we were helping to push the car up the grade. We got a lot of laughs that way.

Hitchhiking to Princeton NJ one day in ’71 spring ’72 I was picked up by a guy in one of these. To htis day I can remember thinking how small it was and I was just a skinny teen.

Check out those groovy speakers in the footwells. What do I think? I think $3500 is too much for them.

      Johnnie,

The listing has now expired on craigslist. Sometimes they are sold or pulled off.

That do I think? I think that dreadful Plymouth Cricket is looking more and more enticing.

I remember these – they looked tiny especially next to all of that American Iron of the time.
I recall seeing one broken down and the owner easily pushing it along the side of the road.

About eight or nine years ago I had a chance to get one of these for free. My late wife’s Brother-In-law had one in his back yard with weeds growing up around it.
When he got it a few years before he had been thinking about making an electric car out of it but it never happened. I really wanted it and could have had it for free but had no place to keep it and no place to restore it. Would have been fun, though!
He sold it to another guy and that’s all there was to that!
