While not the prettiest or fastest thing on 4 wheels, this 1972 Mercury Cougar convertible listed here on eBay with a Buy-it-Now of $4,800 is certainly a cheap entry into a classic daily driver. The paint job is straight out of the 70s, and it’s probably no coincidence that this car is located in Pompano Beach, Florida. While it needs some cosmetic attention on the inside and the raked stance probably isn’t to everybody’s liking, here’s a car that still has A/C and a functioning power top that can be driven right now. It’s not a good buy as an appreciating investment, but for having a turnkey project that was made for summertime cruising, this seems like an attractive opportunity. I’m guessing there’s some room to get the price down a bit as well, as some of the car’s issues could be used as bargaining chips for an off-eBay sale. What do you think – is this ’72 Merc a good buy, or just a used car?

Yes with the paint job and the stance that car just screams 70’s. Nice find for someone just not me.
Whoa !!! Maybe I should have viewed the ebay pictures first before commenting, that interior looks to have been seriously wet at one time and let dry in the hot humid Florida sun, also why no engine pictures. Maybe not such a great deal after all.
JW the engine pics are there, it is an a/c car, that is rare in a convertible, there is some serious front suspension problems, but not a bad price, but think i would have to see in person before i bought this one.
Thanks don for pointing that out, I’ve been having issues with my PC picking up pictures on some ebay listings. I get some but not all and some will do the magnify thing and some won’t in the same auction.
OK now I see I didn’t scroll down to the big pictures further down in the ad. DUH !!!
I like it! It needs fatter tires though. I do prefer the hide-away headight models though.
I’d raise the front end a little to match the rear end as well.
BIN is now $4,400…
Jeez, what an ugly bitch!
Poor little kitty! Tell us what you really think!! ;<)
needs cosmetic’s?? at the very least a trip to Maaco ….but only if they are having a special sale…
The previous owner clearly already got the Miami Beach special!
Get rid of the rear shocks. It looks screwy with skinny tires and jacked up. Not a bad price depending on the ‘bubbles”.
It looks like a menthol cigarette. This needs to be the lead character’s car in a Tommy Boy type of movie.
And jeez wipe your dirty fingerprints off the hood at least!
Chebby you are cracking me up !!!!!!!!!!!
$4400?
I think someone misplaced the decimal point.
Atrocious.
B-I-N now $3,900
‘Chebby’, first image, that came to mind, was a pack, of “Kools”; and, I, too, would like the car a whole lot better, if it were level.
Looks like the one I owned in SC in the 90’s. Did it come from there?
