1973 Oldsmobile Toronado For $795!

1973 Oldsmobile Toronado

The other day Josh and I looked at a second generation Toronado that was for sale locally. It was big and ugly, but there was part of me that wanted it badly. The seller had it priced way too high so we ended up walking. The thought of having a 455 Rocket strapped to the front wheels is still alluring though. This Olds may ride on the same platform as the Cadillac Eldorado, but it offered unique styling, many cutting edge safety features, and personally I would rather have it than a comparable Caddy. This particular car runs and drives, but the brakes and fuel system need work. Luckily, the seller is a little more realistic with their pricing. The car is located in Scottsburg, Indiana and it’s listed here on eBay for $795!

I owned a burgundy/burgundy ’73 brand new after owning numerous ’66/67/70/71s…the ’73 was by far the nicest but was really a land-barge. They’re not very hot property and you can score some pretty clean specimens at affordable prices. This one makes you wonder where to start/stop….

Its been done before, cut off the rear half and connect the front to an airstream trailer.
    Airstreams never went so fast….

You either have to fly blindfolded, must have a really long neck to see out the windows or get a stack of pillows to sit on.

This is about as funky as it gets and I am not sure I would want to be seen in something like this…..

$800 for this is a steal… I wouldn’t even consider restoring it but using it as a donor for a mid-engine project car. Have seen plenty of VW and Corvair toronado swaps but imagine a Bradley GT or similar lightweight fiberglass kit car with 300+ horses and 500+ ft lbs of torque out back… :)

Had a really nice ’69 and also a ’76 that I bought from a neighbor in 1980 for only $1,100 it was very clean but had a lot of “Highway” miles on it….but only $1,100 for a 4 yr.old car was a steal!

They can make neat car haulers to. (From Hot Rod Mechanics article, Sept/Oct 1989) (I have the article, complete with measurements and diagrams for cutting and welding)

I was taking drivers ed when the Toronado was introduced. The instructor told us they handle dangerously and we should stay away from FWD!!!!!!

    Price is now $625.

It’s appropriate that the gas gauge is front and center so you can watch it move to the left without taking your eyes too much off of the road.

I have owned a couple of these (both 73) I ended up buying the one you have pictured here also. I like these cars, you don’t see many of them in Ohio so they are head turners
