Looking perfect for a shop truck, or just for a fun, useful, and interesting daily driver, this 1976 Ford F-100 Flareside short-bed pickup isn’t perfect, but it isn’t priced at car show prices either. The seller has it listed here on eBay in exotic-sounding Port Orange, Florida and they’re asking $8,800 or you can make an offer. Thanks to Larry D. for sending in this tip!
The seller is short on photos, very short. They don’t show the passenger side at all, which is always a red flag for me. But, maybe it’s alright over there and they just spaced it out. I’m sure they’d get any photos to anyone who is serious about buying this truck. Still, in 2023 I was hoping that sellers would be giving more info and photos, not less.
This does look like a very cool truck, though, and you can see that parts of it, such as inside the short bed, are in great condition. They also say that there is rust and bodywork, but they don’t show any details of either, so be prepared. The sixth-generation Ford F-Series pickup was made from late 1972 for the 1973 model year up until the end of 1979 here, and production ran a year or two longer in other parts of the world.
The F-100 is a half-ton and most of you know the drill here, the F-150 is a heavy half, the F-250 is a 3/4-ton, and the F-350 is a one-ton. The seat has been recovered and it looks great, and this truck also has aftermarket air-conditioning as seen in the interior photo from the passenger side. They say that everything works other than an aftermarket stereo that isn’t connected, so presumably, the AC works. This truck is, I believe, the Custom trim level, which is the base model. There would have been a Ranger and Ranger XLT above this one. There is an optional factory four-speed manual here, just for the record. A three-speed would have been standard, no pun intended.
The 300 straight-six was standard, but this truck has the optional Ford 302-cu.in. OHV V8, which would have had 130 horsepower. It sounds like this one is a get-in-and-go-anywhere kind of truck, it runs great, in other words. Hagerty is at $7,500 for a #4 fair-condition truck and $15,900 for a #3 good-condition truck. What’s your offer on this one?
Another good Scotty write-up. I have a soft spot for short wheelbase Flaresides of this generation. This one isn’t a bad example. I’m not a big fan of the “old and faded” look, but credit to the seller for staying with his theme. Love the l-o-n-g shifter, but what is that shift knob? And it even has the mandatory cracked steering wheel.
Perhaps the biggest attraction: as the seller points out, he’s not asking big bucks.
Yep! Pretty tough trucks. Like this one for the 4 spd, but if it’s a truck to be used like a truck the 8’ slab side is the way to go-even with the auto and 351M.
This is a Nice puttering truck tho and considering the price that others are asking it’s not bad.
FWIW, we paid considerably less for ours but you could see why if I could figure out how to upload from my photos..LOL
This brings back the memories, 1977, 1st full time real job, I orders a brand new F100. Black, red seat, 302, 3 on the tree stepside like this one. $4300 and change out the door. Sharp looking truck, but everybody that borrowed it said the the box was too small, that I shoulda got a bigger truck. Yea, OK buy your own truck next time. Back then I got bored with vehicles real fast, didn’t even have a year and sold it. I was young and dumb, now I’m a lot older.
Wonder what it looked like before it was “improved”?
I hope they didn’t ruin a nice truck.And what’s the deal
lately with the stupid looking shifters?
At least the price isn’t crazy.
Hurricane Ian flooded a LOT of pt orange and daytona. BE aware of this if you are interested
I hear ya’ on all these Florida submissions, “file photo”?
I had a stepsi,,oops, I mean, FLAREside,,( big deal), like this, one of the many Ford pickups I had or worked with. It was an ex-municipal truck and had a power tail gate, I foolishly removed. The box was so rusted, more like remove it before it fell off. Once the box DID fall off, I made a flatbed out of it with aerial well fenders, and took it and my Bultaco to Florida one year. It was a miserable trip, the tracks in FL. are all sand,( duh) and come to think of it, was rather foolish in a truck like that, but I was young and, um, not stupid, what’s not so harsh, green maybe, a trip I’d never attempt today. Hard to believe what new trucks have become, when this was good enough, no?
I had a ’78 F-100 Styleside. 351, auto, no air or creature comforts. It was my daily driver. But, I learned that it was not meant for heavy hauling. Had a full load of firewood in her, went over a dip in the road and heard a loud crack. At the next left turn, most of the leaf springs deposited themselves onto the pavement. Good times!
Interesting Ford pickup, almost just the way I like them. I’m just not a fan of that style bed, it’s really too small. But I do like the 4-speed and I’m a fan of the 302 in a half ton truck. The 302 has decent power, gives good MPGs and is fairly bullet proof. The price seems reasonable, but the new owner might want to address the rust issues and slap a new paint job on it. Definitely a nice pickup to have as a daily driver.
F250 4X4 5TH generation 67 -72 are the hottest item on the auction block right now. Value is climbing every 6 months
I had a 76 F-100 , 300 6 , I used a chrome piston as a shift knob. Not sure what that blue thing is. But I love thus truck.
