1981 Chevrolet C10 Silverado Stepside W/ 350 V8

A bit of a restomod, this 1981 Chevrolet C10 Silverado Stepside with a topper, or cap/shell on the back, has been repainted in a different green color than its original blue, and the engine and transmission have been rebuilt. Those aren’t bad things, I just thought I’d mention them to get it out of the way. The seller has it posted here on craigslist in Snohomish, Washington, and they’re asking $13,900. Here is the original listing.

Disclaimer: In my quest to find a perfect truck to replace my 1980 Dodge D-50 Sport pickup, the famous “orange truck,” I ran across this listing and noticed that there wasn’t an engine photo. The seller was gracious enough to send a couple of photos, and that was great. A lot of sellers won’t even get back to you, but this one did, and that earned my respect. That’s also when I noticed that this truck was originally Light Blue or Medium Blue metallic (or, Nordic Blue?), and has been changed to this emerald green at some point.

They say that there are a few small nicks and scratches here and there, and maybe a ding or two, but overall, it looks great to me. The Stepside bed style lends itself to having a really unusual topper/cap/shell on the back, doesn’t it? Thankfully, that also appears to be in nice condition, as does the original wood bed floor as seen in the photo inside the cap. Well done on the photos, seller!

The third-generation Chevrolet C/K-Series (C = rear-wheel drive, K = 4WD) pickups were made from 1972 for the 1973 model year until the end of 1991 in North America, in Fleetside and Stepside bodies, or beds, as seen here. Having a bed with big round fenders attached to a crisp, square cab is an interesting look, but I like it. I’m a big fan of Stepside (or Flareside, Utiline, etc.) beds on pickups. The interior appears to be green, other than maybe the dash? Is that blue? Whatever color it is, it’s in rough shape.

Here’s one of two engine photos the seller sent me, and thanks to them again for doing that. I always want to see the engine compartment when I’m considering a vehicle online, and this one looks pretty nice. It’s definitely blue in there, unless I’m seeing things, and that difference between the firewall and elsewhere isn’t a distinct blue/green combination? This is Chevrolet’s 350-cu.in. OHV V8, and it should have around 175 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. It was rebuilt about a decade ago, according to the seller’s listing. Page 11 of this brochure doesn’t show a 350 V8 being available in the C10, so maybe this was an owner upgrade? The automatic transmission, sending power to the rear wheels, was also rebuilt, but very recently, and it comes with a warranty. The only big issue I see or read about, other than one rust hole in the passenger door sill, is that the heater core isn’t currently installed, but a new one is included. Any thoughts on this C10 Stepside?

Had a K10 setup the same way. Total rust bucket, replaced it with an ’18 RAM. Sure wish I’da kept the K10. GLWTS

Pretty clean step side Chevy truck here. Originally blue and has tilt steering. That blue color on the engine was GM’s corporate blue color that started in the mid 1970’s. It has the same color my 1977 Caprice 305 had. This one has survived the times.
