1982 Corvette: Less than 8K Miles

corvette8k

Normally, a 1982 Corvette rarely gets my attention. But with less than 8,000 original miles and a cloth interior from the factory, this particular ‘Vette here on craigslist is a different story altogether. Normally, if a Corvette of this generation is low-mileage, it’s one of the many Pace Car or Collector’s Editions socked away by hundreds of other owners. To find a “plain-jane” example basically new in the wrapper is seen less frequently, especially with special-order options like the blue factory cloth seats. If this were a manual transmission – combined with the limited-slip rear end – I bet it would have sold by now. Still, the $24,000 asking price could be scaring some folks away. What do you think is a fair asking price for a car like this?

Well, NADA’s online classic car valuation tool says around $25K, so they aren’t being ridiculous (assuming the physical condition matches the description- they probably need to fix the heater and A/C). If you want mileage that low, you pay the piper.

Nice, but not at that price,,,,,,,,,, got to wait a few years to get that kind of money for an ’82

….Looks like your trusty dog identified that troublesome slow leak on your left front tire…

something just does’nt sound right, transmission casing replaced by dealer before sold, heat core bypassed? why not get it fixed? actually why not fix ALL the problems before selling? no one is going to pay that kind of price and then have to fix the problems, and just noticed somebody added body side molding, they did’nt come with body side molding.

250 miles a year is about all an ’82 Vette is fun for.

Heater core is a bear to fix. I get why they just bypassed it, but for this price, it should be fixed prior to sale.

Well said. I was trying to think of something to say but that nailed it.

If someone loves that body style and color then it is worth whatever they deem spending. Otherwise not collectable in my opinion even with low mileage.

So many cars go from “non collectable” to “collectable” in a short span and without warning. Like station wagons. Lots of cars are of little interest at 30 years old and very interesting at 40 +.

Late C3’s have no love with the general Vette community, but I love mine and drive it – not just let it sit. But for the work this one needs – and it won’t be just the problems listed (read: replace everything rubber and all brake components) that’s far too much money.

Craig.. I want your silver one. Always wanted to make a tribute Pace Car with this body style…

Rick, It isnt silver its Champagne Beige, its an empty shell, a roller that I bought out of Texas/Oklahoma as a recipient of the running gear and complete interior including wiring , for the rusty framed (& birdcage) white ’80 L82 Automatic.

I love even more when people don’t know how to use Nada or value guides.
I’m quite certain that the “4 speed transmission” listed as an add on, is NOT for an Automatic!

Shout out for Bill because he’s absolutely correct! N.A.D.A. Price sheet wrong,4spd option bonus is for manual transmission. And for the asking price this car should need NOTHING. It should be exactly in the same shape when the owner took delivery. IMHO the color scream’s boring, special order cloth seat’s? Big deal. But for everything that’s been disclosed as needing,I would double that. For sure it will need new tire’s,those are not safe to drive on. Just part of owning spastic plastic……………..FYI, every Corvette ever built is collectible. Strong interest across the club’s,racer guy’s,I’ll take a 63 Coupe like always. Is it the fastest made? No. Best handling? No. Awesome brake’s? No. Then why on earth would I want one? It is an extension of me personally, physically, emotionally. If I were a car,it’s me totally. To the tee:)

This is a base car. Base meaning cloth with steel rally wheels. The heater core might seem to be a huge job, but it’s not. I would rather have the Collectors Edition or even a Bowling Green Special. We had a gold base 82 on the lot in 84 when I worked on these as a tech. They finally marked it down enough to get rid of it.
