This 1985 Dodge Charger Shelby was parked in 1995 and is said to be a one owner vehicle. It was sent to us by numskal who found it listed here on Craigslist. The seller is asking $500 in its current nonrunning condition. The Charger is located in Sacramento, California and has been listed for about a month. It looks like a pretty good deal because, surely, the wheels and some of the parts are worth $500. There are no interior, engine compartment or under carriage pictures.
The 1985 Dodge Charger Shelby is a product of collaboration between Dodge and Carroll Shelby, who was famous for making the Ford Mustang a performance car. Many consider the Dodge Charger Shelby to be a respectable attempt at providing driving fun in terms of power, design, and handling. The 1985 Charger Shelby is powered by a 2.2-liter turbocharged engine, generating 146 horsepower. It is backed by a manual transmission and the odometer reads north of 90,000 miles. Earlier in the 1980’s Pontiac had turbocharged its small V8 in the Trans Am and Buick was making strides in with its turbo V6 in the mid 1980’s. Shelby’s engineering expertise played a pivotal role in elevating the Charger’s performance capabilities, gaining recognition from both enthusiasts and critics.
In terms of design, the Charger Shelby features aerodynamic elements such as a front air dam, rear spoiler, and hood louvers. These components were intended to serve a functional purpose by reducing drag and improving stability at higher speeds. The result is a visually striking vehicle with practical enhancements to its on-road performance. It enhance the angularity of the car which was popular in the 1980’s. A notable feature of the 1985 Charger Shelby is its suspension system, developed in collaboration with Koni. Shelby engineers attempted to provide a balance between comfort and sporty handling. The suspension was touted to be for high-speed driving without compromising ride quality, distinguishing the Charger Shelby from its competitors.
Even though no interior pictures are included, Carroll Shelby’s influence extends to the interior, marked by a sporty yet functional layout. The cockpit includes bucket seats and a driver-centric dashboard. This attention to detail, coupled with a tuned exhaust note, underscores the Charger Shelby’s commitment to providing a comprehensive driving experience.
Not bad but if you are interested definitely have the seller send you more pictures of the interior and engine and what undercarriage they can get
She’s a peach, that’s for sure.
My sister had one, silver and blue, nice car. She traded in her Gremlin for it!
rather have one of these than the Cobra Mustang ll monstrosity.
Not another one. l wonder what Dodge offered Carroll Shelby to endorse this eco box. I think 500 dollars is fair asking price New.
Bought on brand new
Was a really Amazing car …except it was front wheel drive
Would have been legendary if it was rear wheel drive
You could manually adjust the Turbo to 14psi
But you couldn’t hook up at all
So close to being in the history books
My brother bought one when he had Navy money. He left it at home when deployed with instructions to drive it often lest the gas go bad, battery dies, etc.
I never spun tires but the car provided a safe getaway for my idiot friend and me one night when he screwed up at a party we crashed.
The turbo kicking in under max acceleration gives a thrill I still remember.
I owned a 1985 Dodge Charger 2.2 (110 HP), nice looking car and handled fairly well, but poorly built.
Buy it,& then you can honestly say “I bought a Shelby for $500”.
