2003 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra With Only 1,500 Miles!

When I looked at this 2003 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra, I struggled to hit upon its strongest attribute. I couldn’t decide whether it was its stunning paint, its aggressive good looks, its incredibly low odometer reading, or its V8 with power to burn. Then it hit me. This is a car with no single strong suit, but it is a total package that would suit the most discerning performance car enthusiast. The owner has decided to part with the Cobra that is located in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. Therefore, he has listed it for sale here on eBay. The bidding has been frantic, and it has roared past the reserve to sit at $60,600.

This SVT Cobra is 1-of-1,052 that rolled out of the factory wearing stunning Sonic Blue paint. This was the second most popular shade chosen by buyers, with Ebony topping the bill at 2,251 cars. There is no other way to describe the paint than perfect. The car has been garage-kept since new and has only ventured outside to attend the occasional car show. That explains the spotless presentation, the lack of chips and marks, and the underside that looks showroom fresh. The panels are laser straight, with no evidence of any defects. The car retains all of its distinctive aerodynamic additions that were part of the SVT Cobra package. Once again, these are in as-new condition. The original owner ordered this car with the 17″ wheels with the optional chrome finish. Their condition is as impressive as the rest of the exterior. The owner describes the Mustang’s condition as “showroom.” It’s hard to argue with that assessment when you examine the excellent array of high-definition photos that he supplies.

This Cobra’s interior is immaculate, as you might expect in a car with a four-digit odometer reading. It is upholstered in a combination of Charcoal leather and Graphite suede. This was the most popular choice with buyers who ordered their Cobra finished in Sonic Blue, with 1,09 buyers following that path. There is no wear or other problems inside this car, and it is nicely equipped for those potential owners intent on a touch of luxury. In addition to a collection of airbags, occupants receive climate-control air condition, power windows, power locks with keyless entry, power seats, power mirrors, cruise control, a leather-wrapped tilt wheel, and a premium stereo with enough speakers to effectively host a Van Halen concert.

The 4.6-liter V8 that found its way under the hood of the 2003 SVT Cobra is one of the smallest that Ford ever fitted to its iconic pony car range. However, being small doesn’t necessarily mean that it is a wimp. The inclusion of multi-valve technology and forced induction via an Eaton M-112 supercharger sees this DOHC brute churning out an impressive 390hp. Of course, there’s no point in having plenty of power if you can’t get it to the road, but this car has covered those bases. The V8’s impressive power finds its way to the road via the rear wheels and a Tremec T-56 six-speed manual transmission. The question of whether it was a fast car is almost too obvious to ask, but a ¼-mile ET of 12.67 seconds provides a pretty definitive answer. The company treated the SVT Cobra as a total package, so it received significant improvements in springs and shocks compared to the base Mustang, while large four-wheel disc brakes with ABS are an effective performance and safety inclusion. Even stops from this classic’s top speed of 153mph should be straight and true. With a genuine 1,500 miles on the clock, the owner hasn’t gone out of his way to wear out this vehicle. The car comes fully documented with its Owner’s Manual, dealership paperwork, Window Sticker, and SVT Certificate of Authenticity.

We’ve seen a few low-mileage classics over the years here at Barn Finds, and they pose an interesting problem for potential buyers to consider. Part of this car’s intrinsic value rests in the odometer reading, meaning that every additional mile could negatively impact its long-term value. However, the people who designed and built this muscular beast didn’t do so to have it sit in a garage. This SVT Cobra’s rightful place is on our roads, with the driver exploring the power and handling that is at their command. It seems that I might not be alone in my thinking because there have already been fifty-nine bids submitted. This is one of those rare occasions where the bidding on a classic car has soared past the highest values quoted by NADA and Hagerty, so it will be interesting to see where it sits when the hammer falls.

Super nice car. Stunning in Sonic Blue. These Cobras have always been well-respected, and they have held their value well. But the bids for this one, even given its very low mileage, are… really high. Not unlike their decade-older Fox Body brother, with its rapidly-escalating prices? And of course, with such low miles, what to do with it? In any case, I sure do like it.

I bought a twin of this new (got stolen, never recovered) and was somewhat disappointed with the power, until I got a K and N air filter…it was like night and day…thanks for the memories!

My daily driver is a Sonic Blue ’03 Cobra convertible. Definitely good times ahead for whoever buys this beauty!

$60K? Has society lost its mind? Scratch that – we passed that threshold with $100K Porsche “projects” and $30K 300zx.

I owned a couple of this generation of “Terminator” Cobras. The hand assembled 32v engine was always great, but got much better when supercharged. I always loved this motors ability to breathe all the way up to redline while pulling like a locomotive the whole way. But IMHO the feature that made this car such a good overall package was the IRS. By the time the ’03 models came out, Ford had engineered out all the bugs of that system. It made for an excellent handling pony car considering the humble beginnings and mass production intentions of the SN-95 platform.

All that said, it still shocks me that a low mileage “preservation” specimen like this could go for crazy stupid money. It’s a special car, but it’s not THAT special. I’d rather spend that kind of cash for a new Shelby GT 500 and drive the bejesus out of it.

As has been said, nice car, but $61K with 5 days left? Lots of people with more money than brains…

Just can’t see buying this over a brand new Mach 1 or better.

    Maybe as an investment?
