2,043 Original Miles: 1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra

Just when I think there can’t possibly be another Fox body Mustang Cobra hiding in someone’s garage, another low mileage specimen reveals itself. This 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra has just over 2,000 original miles on the clock and presents as new. Featuring a black exterior over gray leather, the Cobra is a looker and also a pricey acquisition, as bidding is at $55,000 but still sort of the Buy-It-Now of $125,000. Now, it’s not likely to get there, but the seller is alerting you as to what he thinks the Cobra is worth. Are these cars poised to be six-figure acquisitions in a few years? Find the Cobra here on eBay and located in Newtown, Connecticut.

Now, I’m almost on the verge of getting tired of seeing these Cobras pop up for sale, as they’re becoming like the proverbial baseball card or comic book that everyone thinks the other guy’s mom threw out. The Cobra is a collector car, no doubt – but they weren’t so exceptional that it sits on a list of the top 10 driver’s cars ever made. Personally, the Fox body Saleen cars pop up so infrequently compared to the SVT Cobra that those aftermarket limited editions are immensely more desirable to me than a Cobra of this generation. Before anyone gets offended, I love the Fox body – it’s my favorite era of the Mustang – but I am beginning to wonder if the crazy money being paid for the 90s SVT offering is short-sighted when you consider the frequency with which they are coming up for sale.

There’s no denying this Cobra remains in exceptional condition, and it’s offered for sale by the original owner. This takes a fair amount of restraint to effectively never drive a car that was built for being driven. The seller got some time with it, no doubt, as you do have to drive with some regularity to get to over 2,000 miles, but I can’t help but wonder if the final sale price will be that much different if he had actually used it every summer and reached 10,000 miles. I realize I’m splitting hairs at this point, but for some cars, it really doesn’t make a whole lot of difference whether there’s 10K or 20K on the clock. Given where the SVT cars are right now in terms of value, I’m not sure having a few more miles racked up would have made that much of a difference.

In general, the SVT cars pose a conundrum. I love them, personally, as it’s a great balance of reliable, warrantied performance with enough enhancements to actually feel special. I’d love to own a Contour SVT someday, not only because it was supposedly a great driver’s car but also because they are incredibly cheap. So cheap, in fact, they still go to the scrap yard with a shocking frequency. The SVT muscle cars like the Cobra and the Lightning pickup are true high-performance models, and deserve a fair price when found in time warp condition like this – but I have my doubts the seller will get close to his Buy-It-Now price. What do you think it should sell for?

That there is what we call crack pipe pricing. Still, I’m amazed that this car hit $50k, so maybe it is I that have the drug problem.

Still a nice car, but there’s probably 5 or 6 dozen other vehicles that I’d want in the $50-$70k range before I’d even look at this.

These for some reason became one of the Radwood Prom Queens so they sell for a bunch. Not really sure why. But like old Hot Wheels cars, some things just defy logic.

For a car “always garaged” there seems to be a lot of cloudiness to the headlight covers. It just does not look right. Now, I love me some fox body, but this one at 100+K is a real stretch.

Buy a new car with a warranty.

There isn’t a fox body Muskrat on planet earth worth that kind of money let alone with foggy headlamps that put the milage or proper storage into question.

I think he is confusing his Cobra with a Cobra R. A 49 mile Cobra R sold for $132k on BAT recently and a 293 mile Cobra. sold for $83k.

    I think this wouldn’t go past $65-70k.

besides the fact that the buy it now price seems ridiculous ( never know these days).. this somehow does not look like a 2,000 mile car. Not to mention the headlights. I’m not pretending to be an expert but if you look closely at the engine, it does not look like one thats barely been used

$60,100 now and reserve not met, just because it has low miles?

I would take a car that was loved, enjoyed, and preserved over 102,000 miles than one that was stashed away at 2000 miles
