22,595 Miles: 1971 Dodge Charger

After many years in storage this 22,595 mile ’71 Charger is a clean and solid example. With virtually no rust present on this car, this Charger is like a dream come true. But no real dream comes without some work, and this Dodge needs some work to be a driver once more. With 3 days remaining bidding has reached $4,550 with the reserve not met, or there is a buy it now option for $8,500. Take a look at this Dodge here on ebay out of Arlington Heights, Illinois.

There are a few interesting things going on with this Charger. The first thing is that the engine is locked up from sitting a long time, but it would appear there are some fairly modern parts on this machine. The Mickey Thompson Slicks tell a different story too. Looking past the few modern components perhaps the engine could be soaked and freed up? Surprisingly the only visible rust on this Charger is in the engine bay. There is some surface rust along the inner fender, but otherwise this engine bay is mighty clean.

Inside, the interior seems clean and in good condition but the carpet is missing, and there are a few cracks in the dash. The largest concern is that there appears to be water, or brake fluid, pooled in the driver side foot well. Also the dash seems more reminiscent of a car that would have higher miles, and spent more time out doors. But plastic technology grew leap and bounds and time Looking past the water and dash, the floors look excellent in this Dodge which is certainly a rare sight. There is no visible rust, rot, dents or dings.

There is no mistaking that this Charger is in great condition, as the body is excellent with no visible rust on the exterior or undercarriage of the car. The undercarriage appears to have been sprayed with primer recently, but the metal appears smooth without any rusty looking spots. The factory paint is beautiful with no blemishes to report, and even the vinyl top is in awesome condition. Even though the engine is locked up in the Mopar, the awesome condition of the body and the original paint certainly makes this a worthwhile project. Would you jump on this solid Mopar project?

There’s something not quite right about the left rear quarter panel.

Why wouldn’t the seller close the hood and headlight doors? Looks clean, but likely rode hard.

Yep dodge did not do themselves any favors with the 71 design. Killed a great style.

Rode very hard for only 22,500 miles. I’m confused why if in storage some kind of fluid pooled on floor, or even photographed and not cleaned up for some reason. I would need the interior and dash explained, along with some engine issue’s. Is the freshly sprayed primer covering something?

What year is this fine black beauty?
Yes I am mostly a rookie. But do recall a few Chargers.
      Thanks for posting.

They just left out a couple words “22,595.00 miles” (on the odometer) Add a 1 in front of that. I would guess it has a leaking windshield seal, since the pictures appear to have been taken in the rain. I wouldn’t be surprised to find some rust-through in a few places, but overall it looks like a very restorable car.

Funny, nobody caught the mileage discrepancy. The picture of the odometer reads 22,596.6 but in the description the owner writes 22,595.00

Also car is coded for a 383 2bbl (L). Was told engine is stamped 383HP which would have been an “N” code on VIN. If that’s the case not original engine. But wow that body was nice

That floor pan looks like it was just replaced ~ 1 piece ~ Dirty water in drivers pan means they either just pressure washed the floor and didn’t get all the water out before snappin the pic or the windshield seals are shot a 71 with the quoted miles (I agree about adding 1 or 2 in front of the current odometer ) are selling much higher then their BIN price ~ that left rear 1/4 looks repaired to me ~I would also look close at the frame rails as it is a northern Illinois car

This an SE. I thought that the first year for an SE was ’72. My Dad bought a brand new Charger in ’71; our first car with A/C. I loved this car. Non-smoker, garage baby, 318, interesting options. Super Bee tail lights, luggage rack on the trunk. I vacuumed the carpeting every evening after supper, washed & waxed it once a week. Removed the lug nuts and polished them once a month. Really great car. Dad traded it for a new ’75 T/A. Bummer.
