Of the 46,704 Trans Ams built by Pontiac in 1976, only 7,528 were equipped with the 455 cubic inch V8 engine. The only transmission offered with the 455 V8 engine was the Borg Warner T10 4 speed manual transmission. Located in Jacksonville, Florida, this Trans Am has been listed for a week with an asking price of $59,999. The car is said to be all original and have only 23,783 miles. This 1976 Pontiac Trans Am is listed here on Craigslist it said to be in excellent condition and comes with the original window sticker and owners manual. We appreciate Jack M. sending us the link for this beautiful car.

Unlike most Starlight Black Code 19 Trans Ams, this car features the camel deluxe interior. The car has manual windows, remote driver mirror and air conditioning. It appears the seat belts and console have been replaced. The other interior pictures indicate that the headliner is in good shape and aftermarket 6×9 speakers adorn the rear package tray. The only other non factory item that stands out is the cup holders attached to the door panels.

In 1976, Pontiac offered two engines: a standard 400 cubic inch V8 (185 hp, 310 lb-ft) and an optional 455 cubic inch V8 (200 hp, 330 lb-ft). The optional L75 455 cubic inch V8 (W code) is not considered powerful by today’s standards at 200 horsepower but was very respectable for the mid 1970’s. As mentioned, it was only available with the 4-speed transmission and came with a 3.23 rear end ratio. Most customers opted for the L78 400 cubic inch V8 engine matched to an automatic transmission but 5,424 buyers went with the L78 400 cubic inch V8 and 4 speed.

This car appears to be in excellent shape. It does have 1978-1981 snowflake wheels and tinted windows. The seller states that he or she has the original floor mats. Pontiac Trans Am sales rose steadily through the 1970s, jumping 70% in 1976. Pontiac also introduced a new Black and Gold Limited Edition (LE) model in 1976 which marked Pontiac’s 50th anniversary. While this car is a regular production Code 19 black Trans Am and not an LE Trans Am, it appears to be a very nice example.

At that price, it will be listed longer than a week. Nonetheless a great looking car. Yeeeeeah, don’t think that personalized plate would fly in Missouri. Merry Christmas, Barnfinders!
Comment #87 from Rob on BaT how the 1976 Firebird family was my favourite of the breed :D This is how ya want a Trans Am(I’d prefer a Formula..but i’m weird)
I have to agree, personally I prefer the twin hood scoops of the Formula to the shaker but that’s just me. But man a round headlight bird with a 4speed, just does it for me ….
No Engine Photos?
At this lofty price point, you’re going to be competing for very discernible collectors. The seller thus might want to add the original rims. Knowing second generation F bodies like I do, these 1978-79 WS6 rims don’t look right on this particular car.
They also might want to ditch the cheesy ebay floor mats and put originals in, and get rid of those awful cup holders. These things will make collectors wonder, fair or not, what else has been changed.
These might sound like little things, but little things matter when you’re at this level.
100% correct. Those snowflakes stand out like a sore thumb
All of the above plus cup holders = coffee stains.
Cup holders take 10 seconds to take off, ebay floor mats are there to get beat up while the originals are in sealed plastic in my garage awaiting the next owner, wheels can be negotiated into the right deal with the right buyer. As my comment below says, check the classic cars post of it and you will see engine pics original window sticker and a video. Stuck on craigslist to get some more eyes, cant hurt.
An in-person inspection is mandatory, of course, but it looks like a great example that wouldn’t take much to put back to factory appearance.
Thanks Trans Am, didn’t notice the personalized plate until you pointed it out. They are pretty strict about that stuff down here. I believe the “F” saved that one! I live in Fernandina Beach, so this thing is about 20 miles away from me. Would love to have it in the garage, a set of original Pontiac rally rims and this beauty is fine. Wifey would strongly request a plate change before we drove it!
Yup. Usually show off the T/As I see to my wife, hesitated on this one. Again, like everyone else is saying I’m quite leary about it given the lack of mileage proof and no engine pics. Definitely think they should reimagine their expectations on the sale price. I’d jump in that beefed up Capri from yesterday for 30k less any day of the week. (She didn’t hear that, did she?) Lol
If only Burt was still alive to sign it.
stiff price. where’s the PHS docs? those dark windows most likely not legal in all states and really not helping the cause
You can take window tint off in less than five minutes. Helps keep cool down here in florida, even with the AC.
Nice Pontiac here with a desireable drivetrain. Just needs engine pictures and a little cleaning up. Price is high and would like to see more photos.
$60K for a malaise year firebird? Dealers were having trouble getting these off the lots, gas guzzlers with no performance. Pontiac finally marketed the new body style with Hollywood in the ‘Bandit’ movies and that’s when things changed for birds.
I think for the asking price the owner should put the original style honeycomb wheels on this Trans Am. The newer style just don’t look right. That’s my 2 cents worth and I’m sticking to it. Other than some TLC this is a really nice car.
Why would you put a $60k car on Craigslist??? Seems odd. Nice car but… nope.
I am the owner of the trans am. If you head over to classic cars and look at my listing there you will find engine pictures along with more details such as a video, the original window sticker, owners manual, original warranty pamphlet, etc etc. Obviously the price is negotiable to the right buyer, The cup holders are stuck on with 3m tape takes two seconds to take off. original mats are in sealed plastic in my garage. Very hard to find this year and combo with the 4 speed manual etc. As for the license plate, its funny, and fits the cars personality, My wife even thought so as well LOL. this isnt a prius after all.
I’ve answered a lot of your questions but for some reason none of my comments posted? I’ve posted a new video over on classic cars.
