There are few cars that remain hidden from the eyes of collectors, especially with how digitized the car world has become. In the blink of an eye, a vehicle can begin rapidly climbing in value because one expert or another deemed it worthy of investing in. However, there are still some treasures lurking – if you can find them. This 1993 Dodge Daytona IROC R/T is one of my favorites at the moment, as it was blisteringly quick for the era and very hard to find today. Find it here on craigslist for $21,500 in Pittsburgh.
Now, most of you probably choked on your corn flakes with a near-$22K ask for a Daytona, but this one only has 25,000 miles on the clock. It’s also perhaps the rarest of the 90s-era Daytonas ever built and it comes with a few tricks up its sleeve performance-wise. The bodywork appears to be in excellent shape with the aero enhancements that came standard all accounted for, and the period-correct “slicer”-style wheels still in place that clue you in that this is the high-performance model.
The IROC R/T of this era came with a few different engine options, the hottest of which was the turbocharged 2.2L four-cylinder with the Lotus-designed head. That’s how this Daytona is equipped, and while it may be difficult to find parts for this motor (God help you if you warp the head), when it’s running sweet, it’s a screamer: 224 horsepower, DOHC, top speed of almost 150, and a 0-60 run in under seven seconds. Not bad for an econobox.
With such low miles, the interior is in pleasingly mint condition. The charcoal leather buckets are in excellent condition, as are the door panels and other touch-points in the cockpit. The steering wheels shows little in the way of wear, and the seller has a whole host of documentation to go along with it, like the original window sticker and even a branded jacket that was offered to buyers when the car was new. With 12-way power seats and the Infinity sound system, this Daytona truly had every box checked, and is worth a look for anyone seeking out a collectible modern classic that hasn’t yet exploded in value.
Scott Geoffrion & Darrell Alderman’s Daytona ProStocks. That’s power and performance.
Wow these had that much top-end ?
How were they geared 🤔
Talk about a sleepy looking hwy screamer.
If you want an even more under the radar collector car try to find a Mexican only Chrysler Phantom R/T. Same Lotus head 225hp twin cam 2.2L in the Chrysler LeBaron coupe body.
