No Reserve: 1978 Chevrolet Corvette 25th Anniversary

By selecting the B2Z option in 1978, you could order a 25th Anniversary Edition Corvette at any Chevrolet dealer across the country. With 2 days remaining in the auction, this 1978 25th Anniversary Edition Chevrolet Corvette is being sold here on eBay at no reserve. The current bid price is $5,100 and the Corvette is located in Hamel, Minnesota. The odometer reflects just over 49,000 miles. The seller states the car is in very original condition and I would consider this a survivor because it looks to be well cared for and bone stock.

The oyster interior is stock 1978 but the steering wheel is missing the horn button and the center console is scratched up . The wear on the interior looks typical for a 42 year old car and the Corvette is sporting an vintage Alpine AM/FM cassette. The 25th Anniversary Edition Corvette that was produced in 1978 were two tone silver. Despite what many people think, the 25th anniversary Corvette was not a limited production with 15,283 cars being produced out of 46,776 Corvettes for the entire year.

There is some rust under the hood on the master cylinder and brake booster. The car appears to be equipped with the base L48 350 cubic inch V8 engine that produced 185 horsepower in 1978. The optional engine that was a step up from the L48 was the L82 350 cubic inch engine that was rated at 220 horsepower.  I have a 1979 Corvette with a L82 engine that I think is underpowered. Some aluminum heads and better cam could do a lot for this engine.

Silver was a popular color in 1978.  My parents bought a 1978 two tone silver Buick Regal that year and it was all the rage. The price guides indicate that C3 values are still languishing. These cars need to be driven and kept out of harsh weather. I would expect this car to sell in the $8,000 to $9,000 range but I may be low. What would you pay?

One of my favorite Corvettes. This was one of my childhood dream cars. Last i checked I still don’t need 600hp+ to get around town.

What he said. This was a car that appealed to my childhood brain that was just starting to notice cars. And it’s probably way more affordable (I haven’t actually checked, but these HAVE to be more affordable) than the Porsche 930 Turbos and Ferrari 308’s of that era that I had in poster form on my bedroom walls. Also remember the ubiquitous Farrah poster….

All ’78’s were considered an Anniversary Edition. Even the Pace Cars got the Anniversary badge. This was just a paint code option as was the Pace car.

I think the Pace Car was a little more than just the paint code. Not 100% sure but I think the wheels and tires might have been different and maybe a few other minor details.

Those Silver Anniversary Corvettes with those factory aluminum wheels are still so sweet. Did GM equip those with the L-82 4-speed combo? Was there any history of the drivers of ’77 Corvettes with the Gymkhana suspension suddenly losing control and crashing?

My 1979 had the L-82/4-speed with FE7 Gymkhana plus all the air pollution stuff was in a big box to let that baby breathe. and I am pretty sure I never crashed it.

I had a new one in 1978. It was an L-82 4 speed car with a black interior which I had ordered. They were hard to find.

Watch out for rust in the birdcage/pillars…. I doubt MN winters are any nicer to old cars than MI…

The 78 and 79 look so much better with the pace car spoilers.

In my opinion. these Disco Vettes as they are called were amongst the best looking Corvette ever produced, although extremely under powered, they are also extremely cheap, so pulling the motor and having it worked, or put aside, in case they ever go up in value as original and installing a LS motor and newer overdrive transmission will make the car a lot more fun to drive, and your not defacing a 67 big block car, just a 8,000.00 Corvette

Nice car but the automatic transmission leaves me out. If you can’t shift it, it’s not worth having.
