Ford’s successful Falcon compact would get a facelift for 1964 while it was also providing the foundation for the upcoming Mustang. Those styling changes provided for more sharply defined fenders and corners. Production would be down slightly and may have been influenced by the mid-year success of its new offspring. This ’64 Falcon station wagon has a later model small-block V8 and 4-speed transmission and could use a little cosmetic attention. Located in Deming, New Mexico, the transport is available here on craigslist for $6,800 OBO.
We don’t know how this wagon left the factory, but an inline-six with a column-shifted 3-speed manual would be likely. It looks as though the coupling where the shifter adjoined the steering column is still present. You could get a V8 in a ’64 Falcon, too, and that would have been a 260 cubic inch engine. We assume the 1968 or later engine is stock, but the presence of an aftermarket air cleaner suggests the goal was to make the car peppier than it would have otherwise been before.
Assuming this is the standard Falcon wagon, the seller’s example would be one of 6,034 built. But if the Deluxe wagon, the number jumps to 20,697. We can’t tell from the photos provided if there is enough extra outside chrome trim to say if it’s the latter rendition of the wagon. The seller, who is also the car’s second owner, says the Ford runs and drives fine. Most of the time and money you might further invest would be to improve its physical appearance, although certainly not an immediate need.
There are no flashing lights signaling rust on the wagon, except for some of the surface stuff in the cargo compartment. The upholstery looks fine, although the dash pad has a few small cracks. It looks as though the horn ring is missing so you can’t warn folks you’re coming. There is an aftermarket stereo in the dash and a pair of some huge speakers in the back which we assume all come with the deal. A set of mag wheels finishes off the package, but we don’t know how new the tires are and the wagon’s mileage is not stated. Hagerty estimates a ’64 Falcon to be worth between $4-7,000 in Fair to Good condition.
Pretty cool old Falcon wagon, but obviously a V8 four-speed conversion. Personally however, the only way I’d comply with this statement “Located in Deming, NM Buyers must come to Deming to see the vehicle, no exceptions” is if I was within a two hour drive and there was something interesting to do or see or somewhere interesting to eat along the way.
if you were to drive to deming there are several sites worth seeing along the way. Hatch Chili’s, Sante Fe Brewing, White Sands National Monument, Taos and Roswell, NM art installations, Bosque Brewery in Las Cruces, Marble Brewery in Albq. and the list goes on……
You might be totally “in the bag” as they say by the time you make it to the car. That’s a lot of beer joints and chili won’t help matters if you’ve downed a few pints of local brew. Taos and Roswell, of course, have their own zeitgeist of art and other attractions. But is any gearhead (alone, without their spouse and family) honestly going to stop over when there is a Falcon to inspect?

Love this wagon. Wondering what torque boxes look like? If they are ok I’d think this would make a great summer vacation. I’m in the northeast so would love to fly out and then drive it back. Granted that would mean lost of trust and a solid base of car to work with.
But seems a little pricy for what really it is …
Torque boxes are shown from above in one of the photos. The passenger side looks like it is showing some penetrating rust. I’m sure this thing could squeak like a scalded hog….
Right front fender appears to have a chrome 260 V8 emblem.
I think it came with the 260 originally ….
