In 1977 Pontiac gave the Firebird another design haul. They added four square headlights, a lower profile formula hood, and several different engine options. These cars are about as iconic as it gets, their profile dots dozens of movies because they have that “it” factor. This example is in excellent condition despite its rebuilt title due to flood damage. It’s offered for auction on eBay with just under 32k miles. The bidding ends Friday the 29th.
The exterior is finished in original Brentwood Brown with the quintessential gigantic firebird emblem on the hood. The paint and body appear to be in great condition. It is said to be free of rust or damage. The seller noted that the original Rally II wheels have been replaced with snowflake wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich tires.
The interior is finished in Buckskin vinyl. It appears to be free of any blemishes or damage. The seller notes the car had some flood damage but everything affected has been replaced. The carpet was removed and the owner sanded the floorboards. They also rustproofed it and included dyna-mat to reduce road noise. The affected areas were also rustproofed. The seller also replaced the headliner. Everything else about the car is original. The factory spare tire and original radio have been removed but will accompany the car. The car needs a dome light and roof drip moldings.
The original 6.6l 4 bbl V8 sends power to the rear wheels through an automatic transmission. The car is said to run and drive great. This Firebird presents the opportunity to own a well-kept mostly original example that needs very little work. It is undeniably a statement car that will turn heads. Firebirds are known for being both comfortable and fun to drive which is the perfect marriage. If you would like to add this beautiful car to your fleet bid on eBay before the auction ends this Friday.
I have seen lots of Trans Am cars over the years and this color is a first for me. Can’t imagine it was a popular color choice. If this is in fact a rare color choice does it increase the value in the Pontiac world?
I love it on this model alphasud. 👍
I had one just like it (sans the block heater and high altitude emissions system). Was a great car: looked nice, handled well, and was quite fast for the day.
Glad to see no one decided this needed to be black during it’s life.
Honestly the brown was somewhat popular at the time. Along with gold it gave buyers an alternative to black, white, red and blue. Nice looking car with a rather light spec sheet.
I owned one of these in 91. Sold it for 2800 bucks. And yes, that color kills the value of the car. Just as bad in person.
Ended at $15,200.
Reserve Not Met.
Beer bottle brown ,now that makes it cooler!
The common turning-brownish BFG tire lettering would match the paint – might as well not bother to keep scrubbing to bring back the white.
With cat removed, suprised it still has single exhaust.
With no a/c, it has upper & lower fresh air vents, tho with the loss of the hood slotted openings in ’77, i wonder if they are as effective as the ones on ’70-’76 models with curvier hood.
31k miles & no door dents? – must never have parked in public lots or even ran quick errands. Back in the day, I had big 2 door cars park too close to my bird, & kids & even some adults would carelessly open their big 2 door door & bang mine – with my passenger or me waiting in the car! That’s why a lot of these F-bodies had bodyside molding installed to hide the small dents.
HS buddy Tony bought a new T/A in ‘77, the same Brown over Buckskin. Standard 400, A/C and the Hurst Hatches T-top. He kept it immaculate and I’ll say, the Brown really popped when waxed up in the Florida sun. He turned in our group to Pontiac performance and soon there were 7 Trans Ams (and 1 Corvette) in our group. Dan had the fastest, a base T/A, solid roof, TA 6.6 220 horse engine and a 4 speed. Lenny had the slowest, an ‘80 WS6 T-top 4.9 Turbo. All looked and drove great and gave all of us tons of enjoyment. Fantastic card in the era, in ‘78, 8 grand got you a great Trans Am or Formula with all the performance bits. Great values in the day.
