327 V8: 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Garage Find

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The first generation of the Chevy Camaro lasted from 1967 to 1969 and the final year may have been the most attractive (IMO). It was also the best-selling at more than 243,000 copies, thanks in part to a 15-month production cycle. This ’69 Camaro appears to be an ordinary model (not an RS, SS, or Z28) and has been a prisoner in a garage in San Antonio, Texas for a very long time. Once freed, it will need a complete restoration and is available here on craigslist for $12,500.

This Camaro has a 327 cubic inch V8 that was rated at 210 hp with a 2-barrel carburetor. The LF7 engine was in its last year at Chevrolet yet was the second most popular motor ordered in the Camaro (only beaten out by the 307). More than 44,000 copies of them came with this motor which is paired with an automatic transmission (2-speed Powerglide?) and air conditioning (what’s left of it).

We don’t know the history of this Chevrolet or why it’s been squirreled away in a garage for what seems like forever. Did it quit running and was it a weekend project that never came to be? Or did the owner pass away and his/her heirs found it when liquidating the estate? Whatever the case, it appears to have stayed dry which has helped prevent rust from becoming a major problem (or so it seems; check out the trunk lid).

The interior is original, but that doesn’t matter much as it’s a mess and will need to be redone anyway. This car may be a decent restoration candidate, but the cost of acquisition plus the expense of redoing the vehicle will add up quickly. I’d be more inclined to find a ’69 Camaro where most of the heavy lifting has already been done.

Where’d he get the “fuzzy focus” camera lens? My cars would look better if I used one.

I am surprised the add is still up. This car will sell in no time.
FWIW the only reason more 327’s were not sold is because GM killed it.
327 is a far better motor that responds when you wind it. 307 always seemed to have short legs.

I’d like to see some better quality pics of it cleaned off and in the sun to actually know what I’d be in for. $12k is a chunk of money. Another thousand and you can buy a dynacorn body. The header panel looks pretty rusty like there was no paint left on it for years. Some things just don’t add up. There has to be more to the story. If asking this kind of money for a major project, at least gice me a couple pics of it rinsed off in the sun.

I bought a 68 camero from Texas for $9000 and ended up all new body panels and roof. A Complete rust bucket.
Next time I’ll fly down and check it out in person. Airplane ticket is way cheaper than………
