34K Miles? 1990 Ford LTD Crown Victoria Wagon

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Showing 34,460 miles, the seller believes that number is at least somewhat accurate. Although they go on to say that “whoever was entering the perplexingly inconsistent Carfax odometer readings seems to have suffered a bit of sunstroke.” Whatever the actual mileage, this 1990 Ford LTD Crown Victoria Wagon looks almost like new. It’s listed here on eBay in Fort Worth, Texas, and there is an unmet opening bid suggestion of $8,098.50 (?!), but even then, the reserve won’t be met. Thanks to Curvette for the tip!

At just under 18 feet in length and two tons, this LTD Crown Vic wagon is a bit shorter and lighter than a lot of modern SUVs, yet at one time, this was seen as a humongous car that surely had to be a nightmare to drive and especially hard to park. Have we really gotten that lazy or lost so much of our gusto and life experience that we need our vehicles to drive and park themselves now? (sound of Taps playing in the distance)

Ford offered the LTD Crown Victoria from 1979 for the 1980 model year until the end of 1991. Seeing a non-woodgrain Country Squire LTD wagon is a little jarring for most folks; those Squire wagons get most of the love lately. It’s hard to argue with the clean lines of this Crown Victoria, especially in Oxford White. They do say this car has been repainted, so it isn’t a “survivor.”

The seller shows dozens of great photos, but there aren’t any images of the rear cargo area, which seems unusual. There are also no underside photos. Other than that, they hit just about every square inch of this incredible time capsule. The beautiful seats in this nubby fabric are so much nicer than velour, in my opinion. As expected, the rear seating area looks like new.

The engine is Ford’s 302-cu.in. fuel-injected V8, which would have had around 150 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque when new. Backed by a four-speed automatic, and they don’t say how it runs, but I have to believe it runs as great as this car looks. Would any of you drive this LTD Crown Victoria wagon, or would you rather have an SUV?

If the mileage isn’t correct? This would be a candidate for a Coyote swap!

having had a 91 sedan i can attest to the greatness of these ones. about the only i thing i would do save for preventive flushes is put on the factory dual exhaust good for an extra 10 ponies and 10 in torque and away we go

Robert, I should have asked folks to read the eBay listing, the seller mentions this one as having dual exhaust.

“An H-pipe dual exhaust, complete with aftermarket mufflers, reminds anyone within earshot that a 5.0-liter V-8 sounds good, regardless of how many people it needs to carry. “

Tow Package of these years 1987-90s had H pipe/dual exhaust.

There’s someone in my neighborhood who has the same wagon in white and I keep hoping the owner will put it up for sale.

I’m not just WAGON my lips when I say my 89 Crown Victoria LX was equal, in all respects to any other Upscale Luxury CARS I’ve been fortunate to own. IMO, FMCs biggest mistake was not the EDSEL, but dropping Crown Vics, Grand Marquis, and Town Cars. This wagon is a cheap choice vs bloated SUVS at BLOATED prices.

Money Honey? There a few other related reasons, mainly emissions or at least that was a big reason also fuel economy regulations.

I find it interesting that the provided pictures are taken in a way we can’t really determine if the mileage is correct this ride pre dates car fax and auto check but just from the supplied pictures I say that odometer has been rolled once, appears to be rust in the door jam and the amount of dirt on the steering wheel. So its only worth about $1,500 in my opinion.

There was something in the Streetside article about the Carfax report stating some different mileage readings, maybe not in order. Hmmm.
Yeah, I agree with no pics of the cargo area. It is a wagon, isn’t it?
Whoever is doing these fluffy, flowery and sappy write-ups for Streetside, stop it! You’re describing a car, not pretending to be Edgar Allen Poe.

My suspicion is: AI-written, or at least, AI-assisted. I’ve recently read articles discussing how college professors (and high school teachers too, I presume) are trying to deal with students writing reports by having AI do it for them. One noted that his/her give-away was when it was too well-structured, too flowery, full of catchy phrases, all words spelled correctly, etc.

Best deal I’ve seen lately! These were bullet proof and indestructible Panther Platform cars. Why spend crazy money for a new car ($50k bs 10k). Rust free versions with spark plug/dizzy boot are rare!

The Friday afternoon before Christmas 1989, I picked up a brand new CV wagon from the Ford dealer, filled up the tank, picked up the wife and headed out to Ottawa (around 600 kms/375 miles). Didn’t stop until we turned off hwy 401 about 5 hours later. Then we found out that essentially, there were no forward gears except O/D and maybe 3rd so fortunately (since we were in the middle of no-where), we were able to limp it the rest of the way by revving the snot out of it and timing when we hit lights (it was about 10 or 11). Since it was Christmas time, it was 2 weeks later the dealer got back to me that a fluid line had been kinked and fried the trans. After that, it was a great car. Drifted very nicely in snow.

Having owned 2 of these, an 87 & a 91, I can attest to the value of these! The 302 can be easily tweaked to gain 30-40 more ponies. Fuel economy is very acceptable and they are a breeze to work on. In my area when they do turn up command top dollar. I’d paint the side are a nice silver grey and drive it. These got me hooked on Panthers and drive a 94 Lincoln today.

I have a tendency to believe a CarFax report before believing the words of a car dealership. If it is a “perplexingly inconsistent” document, why not provide a copy of it in the overabundance of photos and let the buyer decide?

In any case, it is a very nice example.

This one sure looks like it’s being sold by a dealer. Here are a few clues, window .no front license plate and the rear has no plate just a paper insert ,

These Clark W Grizwald Brougham’s are very nice family haulers and ride like a Lincoln! It’s worth checking out but I personally think it’s seriously over priced. I’d say somewhere in the area of $5k would be more like it since where I’m from I still see a lot of these being used as daily drivers so the words like collectable, classic, antique, or sought after just don’t seem to fit these cars even in mint condition.

Being repainted so you cannot tell the condition of the body on car . And the wabber jabby lip about not knowing the true miles. 5K car at best.

This one looks good to me. Both the 5 liter engine and the AOD transmission are fine and with surprisingly decent milage on the highway, not so much for stop and go. If I didn’t already have a pickup and a crossover Ford, this one would appeal. In past I had an 85 Grand Marquis, and both 86 and 87 Town cars. Just be wary of milage perhaps. Likely rot free, given location.
