350 V8 Project: 1969 Chevrolet Camaro

By 1969, the Chevy Camaro was in its third year in production – and would have a 15-month run as there were delays in getting the all-new 1970 models ready to build. The seller’s Camaro has the X44 code on the cowl tag, which means it’s not a Super Sport or a Z28. In other words, it must be a regular Camaro as it’s not a Rally Sport either. This is strictly a project car that will need a lot of sheet metal work along with a new transmission, but a 350 V8 is in place. The car’s located in West Burlington, Iowa, and available here on eBay where the no reserve auction sits at $4,500.

Chevrolet built 243,000 Camaro’s in 1969, which kept it in second place behind the Ford Mustang in pony car sales. We’re not sure how much of this Camaro is original as it has a reported 122,000 miles, looks well-used, and has likely been off the road for quite some time. The body shop guys are going to stay busy on this project, which may or may not have been painted black at one time given the color of the inside of the trunk lid. It will need a new driver’s side rear quarter panel, rockers panels, floors, and maybe work in areas we can’t see. It will also need a replacement windshield.

The interior is mostly complete and could be okay, just very dirty. At a minimum, we’re told that a headliner and carpeting will be needed. The 350 V8 has not likely been started in a while and the automatic transmission is MIA. This was a column-shifted edition, so if you’re looking to make an SS or Z28 clone out of it, you’ll have to move that to the floor hump. Since it’s not an SS, Z28, or RS, the top dollar for a 1969 Chevy Camaro is in the mid-$30,000s, according to Hagerty. Is this a project that you’d be ready to take on?

Rebuild the 350 to standard specs, pop in a new auto and drive her. These were great cars with a standard V8. They handled better with a small block too. This would be a great road car, good to take on a nice vacation with the wife (if it had air).

A/C is a very good thing to have if your wife is full of hot air. Just kidding. As for this Camaro, To much work for me.
