The third-generation Chevelle didn’t disappoint buyers looking for an attractive coupe, offering smooth lines on the outside and a popular style for the period, shared by numerous GM cars known as Colonnade bodies. However, by 1977, those seeking a spirited engine were out of luck. The 400 from the previous year had been dropped, leaving the optional 350 as the top performer, but even it only offered 170 HP, and that was with a 4-barrel on top. Sticking a 396 in one of these sounds like a great idea, and that’s what has happened with this 1977 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu here on Facebook Marketplace near Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Along with all of the other features here, $14,000 doesn’t sound like an unrealistic asking price, and we’d like to thank reader Hans H. for spotting this cool Chevy and sending in the tip!

Given all the time, effort, and money that have obviously been invested, it’s surprising how few specifics the seller provides here. There’s no information on which engine this Malibu left the factory with, but it now runs a big block, with a 396 proudly sitting under the hood. However, all that is shared is that the motor is built and that the exhaust flows through a set of Hooker headers. It’s mated to a Turbo 350 automatic transmission, with the lone other tidbit here being that a shift kit has been installed. Everything in the bay presents nicely, and the braided hoses are a fun touch, but a few more details about the engine build would have been welcome.

We get even fewer particulars about the inside areas, zero in fact, but the photos sort of speak for themselves here. I’m loving those swivel buckets up front, and the custom console appears to extend the entire length of the interior. An aftermarket shifter has been added, along with under-dash gauges, a column-mounted tach, and I’m thinking that may be an Oldsmobile steering wheel. Although this one was manufactured long before they became mandatory, a third brake light has also been placed on the package tray, plus all four floor mats remind passengers that they are riding in a Chevelle.

Besides the lead photo, this is the only other shot we get of the exterior, which reveals that the headlights have been upgraded and an SS 396 emblem has been added to the center of the grille. The hood has also received some custom touches, including scoops and pins, and the first photo shows what appears to be a straight body, at least on the driver’s side. Even with the sparse written text, I think the seller has given us enough good images to establish that this one is probably worth pursuing if you’re seeking a clean seventies coupe with better-than-standard performance and lots of unique elements. What are your thoughts on this 1977 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu?

Gotta love the stick on pieces that adorn the hood…
Yes-lose the Auto Zone aftermarket hood scoops and goofy LED headlights. Other than that it looks to be a decent job that somebody did in say 2000 when they might’ve found the car somewhere for cheap and had the big brothers-or dads-big block in the garage collecting excessive airborne material then really went to town on the customization.
From what it appears the is a pretty good car for a fairly decent price!
Those stick on hood vents are awful. Have seen some old school louvers cut into car hoods in place of aftermarket hood scoops and they look real good.
The outer set looks like 66 SS Chevelle louvers.
i can’t get on FBMP but this is something else. love the 442 sport wheel and the custom console
Would be a fun car for the money. Lose the silly LED headlights, please.
It looked great until I got to the hood and headlights. Hope he kept the original headlights! Then replace the hood with stock. Hood pins were an 80’s thing. I had a ’76 and spent more time on the suspension with roll bars from a Monte Carlo since they are both A chassis.
Hood Pins are not a 80s thing we had them way before the 80s Trust me I was There
I’m not certain this is a 77, particularly based on the front-end shot. The fact that there are only two exterior pictures makes me suspicious that something is wrong.
I can’t say for sure , but I thought the 77 chevelle had dual headlights .
Is this a joke? What a clownmobile.
I ordered a new one in 1977 Malibu Classic, and sideswiped a guardrail on the way home from the dealership. :-(
77 had dual rectangular (stacked vertically)
77 Chevelle had 4 rectangular headlamps but there’s a lot available in the aftermarket to modify these. Personally I’d take this back as close as possible to its original appearance.
Shoulda had a turbo400.
Surprised that one of these is still out there without a roll cage, guttered interior and worked 350 under the hood with numbers painted on the side. Many of these got used up at the local oval tracks.
And definitely lose all the googaws all over the place.
