Well, well what do we have here? It looks like a 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 except that it has an extra pair of doors and more. Muscle cars and station wagons are regular staples on Barn Finds but what happens when you combine the two? We’re about to find out! This Chevelle Malibu station wagon is located in Edinburgh, Indiana and is available, here on eBay for a current bid of $10,600, reserve not yet met.
Traditionally, Chevelle Super Sport (SS) equipment manifested itself as a separate model, based on the Malibu two-door hardtop or convertible, or was an option package on either of those body styles. There were two exceptions, one in 1969 when SS equipment was made available on the Chevelle “300” two-door sedan, a rarely selected body style choice, and then in ’73, when the SS option found itself available on the station wagon – another rarely selected direction. The seller refers to this Chevelle as, “1967 Chevy Chevelle Wagon SS Clone” and that’s a bit of semantics juggling as there never was a ’67 Chevelle SS station wagon to actually clone, but I get what he means.
Here’s an interesting factoid, this wagon was built with a four-speed manual transmission! While not specifically stated, the engine appears to be a 275 HP, 327 CI V8, wearing replacement valve covers and air cleaner, and the fender badging is indicative of that engine option. There is no description of this reported 62K mile Chevy’s operating prowess. The mileage is stated as actual but there is no documentation offered other than a shot of the odometer.
Outside, this wagon is replete with a SS domed hood, an SS-style rocker panel moldings, grille, SS emblems, and “Super Sport” quarter panel badging. To add a little more flavor, SS-type “Magnum” wheels have been borrowed from a ’69 or ’70 Chevelle SS. Anyway you cut it, the ’67 Chevelle was penned with great-looking lines IMHO, and that flow transcended all of the various body style iterations, including the station wagon. The seller describes this Chevelle’s appearance by stating, “A little hail damage on hood not to bad A few blisters in paint here and the but very presentable …NO RUST. VERY SOLID CAR“.
The interior has a more comfy look than it would have originally, thanks to the 60/40 front seat and folding rear seat which has been relieved from a GM model of some sort – no further sourcing details provided. In keeping with current trends, a small diameter Grant steering wheel, along with aftermarket gauges, have been added. The carpet also looks like the latter style cut-pile variety as opposed to the original nylon loop that would have been in place in ’67. And the carpet treatment extends all the way into the cargo area. Of note, this wagon is A/C equipped!
This Chevelle wagon follows an old trend: if you can’t find what you want, or it was never actually offered, then build it yourself! Sure, there’s no big-block 396 CI V8 to top off the conversion, but this “SS” wagon is pretty nicely prepared as is, wouldn’t you agree?
Certainly a solid looking wagon though the exterior color almost defines “bland.” Having A/C and power steering are almost “must haves” these days though it doesn’t have power brakes as the seller seems to claim. I’d ditch the steering wheel for something more stock and for my taste, those seats would have to go; they just don’t look right in there. Wagon’s are hot right now and everybody likes a four-speed so I’m sure there are quite a few Chevy guys who would love to have this hot rod wagon in their garage. My only other complaint is that the art of putting together a coherent paragraph seems to be dying out.
A factory 327 4bbl 4spd wagon would be worth more without the tacked on SS emblems and moldings. It would also be more interesting in stock or nearly stock condition. The modification done turn an otherwise interesting car into just another wannabe.

This wagon was delivered with a column-shifted transmission. The tachometer is mounted where the original shift lever was located.

Really like this ’67 though I’d still rate it as a starting point. Totally agree with the above point that built as a regular Chevelle wagon it’d be way more interesting. Its interior and gauges just make it appear untidy – with the aftermarket support these Chevelles have it should be possible to locate upgrades that better blend in to give it a more OE appearance? Still, at current bid it’s reasonable for what it is.
60s GM longroofs are hot as h… and IMHO ’64,’65 and ’67 Chevelles are particularly attractive. Only thing better would be something like this 2door ’67 Chevelle wagon build I stumbled upon some years back

Well the bid is 13.9K and the reserve hasn’t been reached yet. It’s a daily driver that is in fair condition from what I see in the pics. It is cool that it’s a wagon with a 4 speed but it has to be close to reaching the reserve, I would think.
If it were only Antartic Blue with the C.B. and optional Rally Fun Pack…oh well,

I have really become fond these wagons. Would probably do it as a resto-mod. All power, crate engine of some kind, modern auto trans,and suspension. But then I suppose one could just get a Dodge Magnum SRT8. Just day dreaming.
