400 CID: 1971 Pontiac Firebird

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

There are 4 days remaining in the auction for this 1971 Pontiac Firebird. The car is located in Pompano Beach, Florida and is listed for sale here on eBay. Three bids have been placed with the high bid being $5,200 and the reserve is not met. The seller also has a Buy It Now Price of $13,500. The car appears to be fairly solid but looks a little bit like a boy racer with a bolted on hood scoop and aftermarket wheels.

The interior is trashed with torn seats and ragged door panels. The carpet has been removed and it looks like the floor pans are solid. However, most of the interior will need to be replaced including the horn buttons on the steering wheel. The Firebird originally had air conditioning but it is not longer working and the compressor and brackets are missing.

The car is equipped with a 400 cubic inch V8 engine backed by an automatic transmission. The car has an aftermarket Edelbrock carburetor and the seller has installed Wilwood disc brakes. The car is currently riding on 18 inch wheels but the ad states that the seller still has the stock wheels which would probably be Pontiac Rally II rims. The engine is said to start and run well with no engine knock or smoke from the tail pipes. A new 2.5″ exhaust system was recently installed.

The front valance is missing along with the grills and I cannot tell if the car has headlights installed. While the 1970 to 1973 Pontiac Firebird had the same body style, front end and rear tail lights, you can always tell a 1971 Pontiac Firebird from the other years. It is the only year where Pontiac installed a faux grill on the front fenders behind each front grill on the Pontiac Firebird, Esprit and Formula. This is a running project car but looks fairly solid, if you can get it for the right price.

If there’s no horrible hidden rust, it’s a good starting point if the seller is realistic about value. The front seats look like Chevette seats and the rear looks like it’s from a Camaro.
