40K Original Miles: 1992 Ford Mustang “Summer Edition”

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1992 Ford Mustang LX convertible is notable for a few reasons: for one thing, it has low miles, right around 40K; for another, it is in stunning shape, with no obvious flaws; and finally, it’s a rare “Summer Edition” car, which was sort of a follow-up on the 7-Up edition. The Summer Edition wore Vibrant Red paint with white interiors and corresponding 16-inch “Opal Pearlescent” wheels. Find the Mustang here on eBay where bids are at $13,600 with the reserve unmet.

The 7-Up edition was somewhat of a let down when we last featured one, as you have to acknowledge there wasn’t much that was special about it aside from the circumstances of its promotion. This Summer Edition just feels like a more compelling offering, but it may because the previous caretaker did such a phenomenal job of maintaining the paint; it truly does look like a new car. The rear spoiler is another hallmark of the so-called “Summer Edition” cars.

Inside was standard Mustang fare, with white leather black piping. This has to be a nightmare to keep clean, but this example again bucks the trend by avoiding any major soiling inside the car. The bright interior with the matching wheels and then contrasted by the deep red paint and black top makes this an eye-catching model without being obnoxious. The Fox body convertible has the added bonus of being a 5-speed.

The engine bay is beautiful, like the rest of the car, and I spy a blue hose or two like the ones found on the pursuit models. With no other obvious modifications, this special edition Mustang has been kept in near-stock condition, which is essential for getting the most money possible out of cars with limited production cycles. This is the kind of collector car you can enjoy while still racking up some miles, so it looks super appealing to me.

These, along with the yellow or white 1993 models along with the 1990 “7-Up” models, are collectively called “Feature Cars.” They are nicely done and eye-catching. The 1992’s like this example, with the bright orangish-red paint, white wheels, white interior, and white top are particularly eye-catching. I’ve never seen one with a black top, I suspect it has been replaced. This one looks good. My friend who had one and kept it in show car condition can attest that the white features are hard to keep clean.

Checks all the boxes Bob, but rather have the practical, and more stylish luggage 🧳 rack, than the spoiler.

White interiors are beautiful. Just don’t hop in her and test drive, after replacing the brakes.

As noted, these had a white top originally. Looks weird with the black top and the white wheels/upholstery but the black top would be easier to keep clean.

These are considerably rarer than the so-called “7-Up” cars as only about 2,000 were built (compared to about 4,100 7-Ups) and the five-speed is rarer than the automatic. Nice find.

I had a red 1978 Firebird with a white interior back when I was sixteen. If you were generally a clean person, the white interior didn’t get dirty. The white vinyl seats stayed cool on hot summer days and didn’t scorch you like black vinyl.
