41 Years Of Storage: 1962 MGA 1600

a2

I think the previous owner had good intentions when they started to store this 1962 MGA under this structure about 10 years ago. Unfortunately, as you can see from this picture, there were times when the tarps weren’t replaced in a timely fashion as they deteriorated. The current owner purchased the car from an owner of 41 years in Pennsylvania, who had repaired the transmission upon purchase, but then had brake issues the first day it was driven. The car was then put away for storage and never taken out. Thanks go to Jim S. for this super find! It’s located in Youngstown, Ohio and is for sale here on eBay without a reserve. The car looks very complete, and even has some new chrome included. These last MGA’s still have the plywood floors of the original, so they are relatively easy to replace, but the corrosion around the seams of the body will require some careful repair. I don’t see anything beyond the skill level of a home restorer though, so is it for you?

Flip-ity-do daa, flipity day… my oh my what a wonderful.. ah flip.
Amazing amount of info about the mirrors, etc.
I am all for restoring these great cars, but please be realistic about the price.
You are not restoring these for profit. You either do it for love or or your nuts.
So many, many of thes great projects fail because the buyer has no idea the 10’s of thousands of dollars it takes to do them right. And few have the skill set to do it all themselves. A very skilled home restorer. Maybe.
    Happy bidding all. Good luck.

As a professional body man of 30 years I’m telling you the rot on the seams is going to need WAY more than a backyard body man…

Agree with Bruce E on the point about the rot in the body-fender seams. Lots of work needed to fix that body even if you have good replacement fenders lying around. The original plywood floors are toast but will be the easiest thing to replace. If I were considering this car I would pay close attention to the frame, which will probably be thin or rotted through in places by now. Too bad, because it’s a last-year ‘A’ with the 1622 engine.

I have done more rusty cars than I like to talk about but like Bruce said, all the rust on the seams is the worst kind. Good luck to the person that takes this project on.

All that work for a custom enclosure and they couldn’t bother to replace the tarp.

Not sure who Jim S. is but we sure thank you for the heads up to barnfinds of our car. The Ebay “views” jumped by the hundreds and helped bidding as well. This car was bought by Alessandro in northern Italy and was picked up for transport this week. Thanks to all the loyal barnfinds fans who passed this on via facebook also. And especially, thanks to barnfinds for featuring the car. It sure was exciting to see our car online. Merry Christmas to all!
