This 1977 Pontiac Trans Am is a claimed low mileage, documented survivor with some attractive (but reversible) upgrades. The car has just 41,900 miles from new, and the seller claims he has paperwork stretching back to the original owner. Surprisingly, it’s listed as a no reserve auction and it looks like it’s going to sell, with bids approaching $24,000 at the moment. While some folks may not love the mods, they all look like improvements to me. Find it here on eBay and located in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
The overall presentation of the Trans Am is of a car that lives up to its description – only used as a nice weather, pleasure driver, with an interior that looks just as you’d expect in a 40,000 mile car. Of course, some cars look like hot garbage with those kind of miles, so this Trans Am has certainly been cherished. The dash shows no cracks, the seats look nicely aged, and the center console and door panels show no signs of sun fading or warpage. The seller calls it a “fanatically maintained” example.
The Trans Am appears to wear a set of the sweet Year One gold wheels that give the car an updated look without sacrificing the iconic looks of the original honeycomb design. It’s a great upgrade, and indicative of the tasteful tweaks the owner has made in his time with the car. Other improvements include new Edelbrock aluminum heads and intake along with a new cam, D.U.I distributor and R.A.R.E ram air exhaust manifolds, part of a top end upgrade package offered by Butler Performance. The engine remains numbers matching and wasn’t removed for the upgrades.
Other tweaks include a restored Quadrajet for better performance with the other enhancements, but that’s it. Maintenance-wise, the brakes and lines were replaced but the original calipers retained in case a purist would cry foul about those being needlessly updated. The seller has kept all of the parts that came off of the Trans Am, so reverting back to 100% stock condition is certainly possible – but why would you? The clean cosmetics, low miles, and improved performance all make this Trans Am super tempting.

East bound and down, loaded up and truckin’,
We’re gonna do what they say can’t be done.
We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there.
I’m east bound, just watch ol’ “Bandit” run.
Keep your foot hard on the pedal. Son, never mind them brakes.
Let it all hang out ’cause we got a run to make.
The boys are thirsty in Atlanta and there’s beer in Texarkana.
And we’ll bring it back no matter what it takes.
Gotta love the late Jerry Reid songs….
This car looks great 👍 plus the mods are heavy with the perf Heads etc. but the original parts are there to satisfy everyone. I always liked the black gold color too.
Now back to Mr Lee …
My fave besides Bandit One is Amos Moses.
“Yeah, here comes Amos
Now Amos Moses was a Cajun
He lived by himself in the swamp
He hunted alligator for a living
He’d just knock them in the head with a stump
The Louisiana law gonna get you, Amos
It ain’t legal hunting alligator down in the swamp, boy
Now everyone blamed his old man
For making him mean as a snake
When Amos Moses was a boy
His daddy would use him for alligator bait
Tie a rope around his neck and throw him in the swamp”. It continues but just hear it on YouTube instead snd laugh 😂👀😎
Classic Steel – Yeah, I have always been a fan of Jerry too. He had a very distinctive guitar style, and oh boy, he knew how to make that Telecaster talk….
Thumbs up for the modifications, color and lack of T Tops. Thumbs down for the lack of a four speed stick shift
Buy it, throw that automatic in a dumpster where it belongs, install 4, 5, or 6 speed, as God intended, and drive it on down the sweet road!! This is a nice ride!
Upgraded performance can only be a plus here, in all aspects not just horsepower….pretty car by the way.
Seller states 3.23 rear gears where build sheet shows 2.41. Build sheet also indicates N98 Rally wheels and car has 8″ snowflakes. Not a big deal, but not original. Makes one wonder what other non-original things seller might not be mentioning.
Well, that steering wheel has either been recovered with non shiny/OEM material, or the whole wheel has been replaced with an aftermarket one. Why?
Also with that low mileage & no bad weather driving, it should not have had to be repainted either.
I know of a ’74 with 250k miles & orig shiny paint & steering wheel. & it was used in bad weather, but just its 1st 4 years.
The 1st thing i look at on these cars is the glove compartment “door” & compare it to the dash.
The underside of the hood should not be that shiny.
Shaker not opened up even after all these years?!
CARB might not like exhaust & engine changes. lol
Nice car! https://www.facebook.com/tony.sorrentino.10/videos/10217114158066284/
??? link removed
What happened to the auction?
Looks like he removed it because he didn’t get his price? New link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1977-Pontiac-Trans-Am-Firebird-/153784847307?nma=true&si=2r9NvN%252F6wziDgaWrhyKN2agEFrA%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
Interesting…
I hab to stop for a moment on this one. Had a 77 with velour interior, Hust T tops Pontiac 400. Was a garage princess sold it in 90 with 42000 miles for 3000.00 was moving out of state and had no storage. Regret that one everytime I see a nice one like this one. Oh well lots of stories out there just like mine
