45 Years of Collecting: Denver Collection Liquidation

When car collections come up for grabs, it’s always interesting to see what another enthusiast has made a point of squirreling away. This seller has decided to sell off the results of 45 years’ worth of collecting, and you can bid on a variety of vehicles, parts, garage art, and more on May 8, 2021 in Salinas, Kansas, where the collection is stashed. Among the cars up for grabs is this 1976 Cadillac Eldorado convertible that runs and drives, and like everything that’s up for grabs, there is no reserve. Check out some of the photos here and the full listing here on craigslist which shows you just how diverse this collection is.

This Datsun pickup immediately caught my eye, not only because I like oddballs like this but because an early truck like this is just exceedingly rare to find anywhere. You don’t expect one to show up in a random collection that suddenly appears on craigslist with one gigantic sale date listed and all no reserve auctions! As a 1964 model, I believe this is considered a 320, and it bears a strong family resemblance to the Nissan Bluebird line of the same era. Sadly, the seller notes this was a running and driving truck until someone stole the carburetor, which sort of begs the question as to how long these vehicles have been stored and if anyone looks after them – the thick coating of dust suggests they don’t move much.

The seller calls this Cushman a “novelty” firetruck, but given it says “Culver International Airport” on the sides, I would have to assume it did see real duty as part of an official airport arsenal of firefighting equipment. It’s amazing how many different arenas Cushman got itself into, and I’m sure there’s a collector of these unusual workhorses that would love to add this to their collection. In the same vein, the seller also has an antique amusement park go-kart and bumper car up for grabs, which may have some value as well if they hail from a particular era or part of the country.

Finally, there’s some oddball custom jobs as well, as this chopped Chevy Handi-Van or Sportvan goes to show us. The seller doesn’t provide many details, just noting that it ran when parked. The listing on craigslist includes numerous other vehicles and automobilia that will be up for grabs, including many of the decor pieces that make up the seller’s stash of garage art and other decor. This includes a mounted tiger, gazelle, Arctic Fox, and other exotic creatures, along with an antique bar. The seller claims it will feel like an auction and a party, so it could be a good time if you find yourself near Salina in early May.

Not really. This guy actually had flashes of good taste, particularly when it comes to the 67-72 short bed fleetside 4×4 and 2dr Chevelle wagon, those will have a lot of interest among enthusiasts. Not to mention the 61 and 58 2dr chevy’s, early suburban and panel delivery. Most of these sort of “collections” featured on this site are a bunch of generic 4 doors with little to no value, most of these cars do have a following.

My father bought a 1959 NSU Prinz same color as this for $50 in 1965 to drive to work……2 cylinder and fun…..got 50mpg and would do 60ish flat out……he was a mechanic and was impressed with the way the engine was built and the starter/generator setup. All it needed was brushes for the starter which he found at an NSU dealer in Chicago………ABT motors which also sold BMW motorcycles.

As the years go by, more and more ’76 Eldo Convertibles will appear, which doesn’t bode well for those who bought one new expecting a windfall down the line.

Too bad they’re not selling these individually to a national audience but rather to a limited in-person auction in the wheat fields of Kansas.
    Sigh…

Salina Kansas is 6 hours from Denver and Dallas, 3 hours from Oklahoma City. Serious buyers from those areas with interest in any of the cars listed in this ad will be there.

Steve R., I understand that there will be persons motivated to travel, just not the same volume of buyers as would be on Ebay sale, for instance. I’d be interested, but can’t travel that far just hoping the in-person auction prices don’t get stupid.
        Just sayin’……

That’s not true in this case. Read the ad, they will be sold at auction, with no reserve. The highest bidder present, takes it home.
