This 1985 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 is a unique color. It is said to be a rare special order W69 Rust Metallic. I don’t know why a car manufacturer would call a paint color “rust” but GM did a lot of things that we don’t understand. Matt H. sent this tip into us and the car is located in Yakima, Washington. The car is listed for sale here on Craigslist for an asking price of $10,500. The odometer is said to read 47,450 miles and the Z28 optioned Camaro is loaded with options including T-Tops, cruise control and tilt steering.
The car is said to be original except for a couple of modifications including dual exhaust and a new Edelbrock 4 barrel carburetor and Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold. This car would have originally left the factory with the LG4 305 cubic inch V8 engine which was rated at 165 horsepower. The seller states that the car is a 2 owner vehicle and one of those owners add some chrome dress up items on the engine. The 5.0 liter V8 engine is backed by a 4 speed automatic transmission.
The interior looks mint but the pictures are a little dark and there appears to be an aftermarket stereo bulging form the dash along with a JC Whitney steering wheel wrap included to cheapen the look of the interior. Being a Z28, the car is equipped with a full gauge package and he a performance tuned suspension. My brother, Barry, had a 1985 IROC with this engine and a 5 speed manual transmission. The larger tires and improved suspension made that car handle like it was on rails. I wonder if you could add the IROC wheels and tires to this Z28 to improve its handling.
Overall, the paint looks good and the car appears to have been maintained in very good condition. There are two small door dings and one corner of the rear spoiler has been replaced. The ad does not explain why the spoiler corner needed replacement. The seller states that the car has always been garaged and not driven in the rain. Being that the car is located in Washington state, it must not have gotten driven too much!
You can add the IROC wheels to this car. If I remember correctly, the wheels are specific to the front or the back. I used the 5 spoke wheels like on this car to upgrade my 1980 Camaro from 14” wheels to 15”.
$8500 for this car per the listing seems more than reasonable, what am I missing?
I agree 100% fair price, I wouldn’t even haggle unless something glaring comes up during in person inspection.
Crazy how much $$ the LG4 cars are getting these days, but the price seems to be inline with the market. I do love the color combination, but the LG4/automatic combo make this one a non-starter for me.
It will find a home at the price, for sure.
The paint color name is “Russet” not “Rust”. Nice car but, I’d probably go back to the stock parts under the hood along with finding a stock radio.
I’d do exactly the same, but I’m all about original
Anemic, slow, and a rattletrap…gotta love ’80’s Camaros. I’m sure it would be a hit at the local trailer park, though.
Looks more modern outside & aerodynamic than the current one!
Hidden wipers add to that. & more practical too. & certainly plenty of side glass.
No need for a silly, stupid, or angry nose or rear on the car either. Or huge wheels.
