The classic Toyota Land Cruiser will always hold appeal among enthusiasts not only for its classic boxy styling and go-anywhere capabilities but also for its ability to serve as a daily driver. Out in the western U.S., trucks like this 60-Series Land Cruiser aren’t necessarily set aside as collector’s items but used like any other commuter vehicle or parts hauler; however, times are changing as it relates to how these trucks are perceived. The FJ60 show here on eBay is equipped with the preferred and somewhat rare 5-speed manual and is offered for sale with no reserve.
Bidding currently sits at a hair over $10,000, and that’s a good sign for this seller with a few days left. While there was a serious run-up in prices a few years back, low to mid-teens seems like a good place to land for a Land Cruiser that hasn’t been restored. The seller’s truck is clad in brown paint, which may not seem super desirable ast first, but it’s actually quite period correct. Like all good trucks that have been used for their intended purpose, this Land Cruiser has a few stickers on the rear bumper that likely point to previous landmarks visited or other memories made possible by a capable 4WD system.
The part-time 4WD system and power steering made the Land Cruiser the sort of vehicle you could use on the pavement or off the beaten track. Although it wasn’t intending to start a revolution, it so happens that the Land Cruiser and other vehicles like the AMC Eagle helped hasten the demise of the station wagon as the vehicle of choice for families. After all, why would you choose an estate wagon over a vehicle that go plow through the snow and venture off road? The seller’s 60 Series looks quite tidy inside with clean cloth upholstery and an attractive two-tone dashboard. The seller notes that the dash is crack-free and that the cabin, including the headliner, are all original.
The engine in most every Land Cruiser was focused on giving you just enough power with heaps of reliability. You were never going to win a stoplight grand prix but you could count on the truck starting every time. The inline-six generated around 135 horsepower and 210 lb.-ft. of torque – not exactly powerful, but enough to keep up with traffic. The seller doesn’t go into any great detail about engine servicing or other recent maintenance, other than to say it’s been his pride and joy; hopefully, he has receipts for some belt changes and other basic deferred maintenance. The 5-speed will count for a significant amount of value on this truck, so don’t be surprised to see bidders move forward even without a thick stack of records.
Don’t remember ever seeing one with a manual! Given the wherewithal I’d buy it in a minute.
All Land Cruisers were manual until 1988…….
is there something wrong with the windshield washer? :D
Pretty sure all FJ60’s came with a manual transmission. Only when it was upgraded to the FJ62 in 1988 was the automatic added as an option.
what a fine example, hard to pass this one up if your a toyota fan
When I click the eBay link it says the auction is ended with a high big of 5k
I saw the same thing when I looked!
My guess is that someone contacted the guy and bought it outright, agreeing to end the auction. ??
Seller sold it off Ebay. Happens all the time.
Ive been working on 88 FJ62 im trying to source an H55 5 speed, but the auto is prefered by my GF. Now that all the bugs worked out of it she drives it regularly.
