5-Speed Manual Survivor: 1989 Chevrolet Camaro

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

We tend to like the third generation Chevrolet Camaro around here, especially when found in survivor-grade condition like this ne. This 1989 Chevy Camaro IROC-Z is in incredible condition, especially for having 70,200 miles. Now, that mileage is low, but it’s not crazy low, which makes the paint condition even more impressive. The seller has added some mild upgrades which make it seem like this Camaro was set up for track days or autocrossing, which makes it even more appropriate that it has the rare and desirable five-speed manual. The rear window louvers? An added bonus. Find the Camaro here on craigslist with an asking price of $19,995.

Thanks to Barn Finds reader Rex M. for the find. The Camaro has always been garaged, according to the seller, and it shows. The interior looks just as good as the outside, with excellent upholstery and a crack-free dash. It’s amazing what a difference the manual gearbox makes in these third generation cars – it’s a different car, in my opinion. The automatic doesn’t necessarily hurt the enjoyment factor, but the cue ball shift knob just means business. The seller presents the Camaro with plastic covering on the floor, which again, give it the impression that it has 25,000 miles instead of 70K. The presentation factor is strong with this one.

The engine bay is nicely detailed and the modifications I spoke of don’t extend under the hood with cheap cold air intakes and aftermarket headers. The seller has added new Koni Sport shocks all around, along with Hawk brake pads and upgraded wheels and tires. The seller has included the original wheels and tires, so the originality hasn’t been affected too much by these improvements. Konis, brake pads, and better tires are the sort of things a track day veteran would recommend over straight horsepower modifications, and aside from bigger sway bars, there’s not much else I’d enhance on this five-speed manual Camaro.

Look at that paint – all factory, too, according to the seller. The Camaro is said to have had its original finish ceramic coasted to protect it long-term, and it shows. We all know how difficult it is to maintain black paint, especially on an older car, but the previous owners of this Camaro have clearly made a point of keeping it in the best condition possible. The wheels are unmarked and the IROC-Z decals show no signs of fading. The third generation Camaro is a car that is appreciating rapidly, and manual transmission examples like this are the ones to buy. If I was in the market, I’d give this 1989 Chevy Camaro a serious look.

I don’t care for these that much but it is the one I would want if I did.

Bummer on the T tops. It would have the G92 package if it didn’t have those.

Very nice IROC. Kind of right in the middle of the usual ones that have been thrashed and those with super-low miles.

That’s a beautiful car. I’ve owned three IROC-Zs in my life, loved every one. Wouldn’t mind making it four and I’d buy this one for sure.

It appears to have been sold. I am not a huge Camaro fan, but like others have said, this is one good looking car. It would make a great driver.
