59K Miles: 1968 Ford Galaxie 500

After three years, Ford decided its full-size Ford was done with the vertically stacked headlights of 1965 to 1967. By doing so, it gave its top line LTD standard concealed headlights, while the lower Galaxie 500 and Custom/500 models got a plainer grille with horizontally placed headlights. There were actually two Galaxie 500 2 door hardtop models offered in 1968. A sportier fastback roofline was shared with the XL, while this more formal hardtop roofline was shared with the LTD. Here is a 1968 Ford Galaxie 500 2 door hardtop for sale here on eBay in La Plata, Maryland.

This is a very solid car that the seller describes as in overall excellent condition. It has received Ziebart rust protection. There is no rust to be found and the car has no dents anywhere. The seller says it comes with the original wheel covers. The ones on the car appear to be from a 1965 Ford. The car is finished in a beautiful blue with a black vinyl top. It has newer Hankook tires.

Inside the car, there are no disappointments at all. The seats are covered in black vinyl and are free of any imperfections as well as the dash. The only thing that could possibly be detracting is the aftermarket steering wheel cover. More modern floor mats are included as well. This car has power steering, power brakes, and factory air conditioning.

The engine picture is a little blurry, but it is a 390 cubic inch V-8 and is paired with dual exhaust. Though not currently on the engine, the factory air cleaner is included along with the owner’s manual and shop manual. The car has only been driven 59,900 miles since new. This nice Galaxie 500 is being offered at no reserve, but with a Buy it Now Price of $9,500, the seller is not up for any ridiculously low bids. This car appears to need nothing, so is it appealing to you?

Gorgeous! The first owner must’ve been very excited picking this up at the dealership. I know that I would have been. I also know that I would be very happy to go pick this up from today’s seller!

Not a bad asking price if you can get right in and cruise. Well-loved by someone and I’d drive and conserve it like the previous owners have.

I grew up in the back seat of one of these cars, albiet a different color on the outside, it did have the exact same black ass burning vinyl.

Since the FORD letters are missing off of the trunk I assume the car has been painted at least once.

My grandfather bought one of these brand new. It was a yellow two-door with a black interior. It had a small V8 mated to a manual transmission with a three on the tree. It was a nice car. Unfortunately, Massachusetts winters sent it to an early grave with a rotted frame in 1976. It was replaced with a Pinto.

Had a friend with a 1970 Galaxie coupe. His frame rotted right in front of the rear wheels.

I grew up in the convertible version of this car. It, like Jay stated, rusted to pieces by the mid to late 1970’s. Kids in my cub scout pack loved to ride in it so they could watch the street go by underneath us as we rode. Dad tried to replace it with a Pinto but Mom couldn’t figure out the clutch. Ultimately, she ended up with a 1973 Riviera as a replacement.
Jay also referred to his grandfathers car being yellow with a black interior, small v-8 with a stick. In the mid 1990’s I ended up in a bidding war with a guy over a twin of your Grandfather’s car. I was at a car lot looking at the car. A guy who had looked at it earlier was on the phone. We both wanted the car. I eventually let the guy have it. About 5 years later I met the guy. He owned an old hearse, I owned a couple hearse, and a hearse driving bartender knew both of us. She introduced us & we became good drinking buddies. One night over a couple boiler makers he asked me to help him move. I said I could do that. I went to his old house to assist in packing & I saw the car parked on the street. I asked if he knew who owned it. He stated it was him. I asked where he got it, he told me the name of the car lot I first saw it at. I told him I tried buying it, & I got into a bidding war with someone on the phone. Sure enough, it was him on the phone.
I wish I had the funds to buy this car, just so I can tell Bill I got my Galaxie now too lol.
