61k Mile 1969 Pontiac GTO Convertible

The seller of this 1969 Pontiac GTO Convertible purchased the car in 1978, and it has led a very sheltered life ever since. This beautiful survivor has not seen rain since that day, and it has remained dealer-serviced ever since. If it is a car that really appeals to you (and who would blame you?), then you will find it located in Marion, Indiana, and listed for sale here on eBay. Bidding on the GTO has reached $16,915, but the reserve hasn’t been met.

Finished in Limelight Green with a Black power top, the GTO presents really nicely. The owner provides a really clear photo of the car’s underside, and apart from a dusting of surface corrosion, it looks to be very solid. There are a couple of very minor rust spots visible in the driver’s side quarter panel. There is also a scrape on the same panel, along with a couple of other minor dings. Overall though, the car is in very nice condition for an original survivor. The exterior trim and chrome are also in great condition, with one of the few non-original parts on the car being a couple of lug-nuts that have been replaced on the Rally II wheels.

The Green interior of the GTO also looks very inviting, with very few issues to report. The carpet was replaced at some point prior to 1978, but the rest of the trim is said to be original. There is a tear in the driver’s seat, but this might be able to be repaired with a blind patch. The rest of the interior trim and the dash look to be close to perfect. Nice options fitted to the car include a push-button radio, tilt wheel, console, and the oh-so-cool hood-tach.

Opening the hood of the GTO reveals a clean and tidy 400ci V8, with this one producing 350hp. In addition, the next owner will receive a 4-speed manual transmission, power steering, and power disc brakes. The car has been meticulously maintained since 1978 and has only accumulated 61,000 genuine miles since new. There are a couple of minor oil leaks to be attended to, but the car is said to run and drive extremely well. Also included with the GTO is a comprehensive collection of documentation, including the original Owner’s Manual, dealer delivery paperwork, service records, and the Protect-O-Plate.

This GTO Convertible is a car that appears to have been cherished and pampered for the majority of its life and would make a great addition to any garage. Its needs are so few that it would be very easy to attend to them during the cooler months, and have a great classic to take cruising when the weather is warm once again. It is such a nice car, and I can’t help but wonder whether any of our readers will be interested in bidding on it.

I never understood why green cars were so popular in 1969. Appears to be a nice GTO.

I had a 69 Pontiac Bonneville in 1976, same green. It was a pretty popular GM color

Your are correct they were popular and I seem to recall very popular with the GTO. I like green cars myself.

Please, expound, regarding your comment. I’m curious ? What is it about being a ’69 don’t you like ?

Personally I think the 69 looks better than the 68, and is the best of the 68-72 bodies. The tail lights are better integrated to the design, emblems and side lights are again, in my opinion, a cleaner design, but I do like the 68 dash better. Another nice feature in the 68 if you have a console automatic, you get the venerable Hurst Dual Gate shifter. The only GTO’s I have not had are a 68, 73 and 74. Even had an 06, still have a 65 convert. But hey, everyone has favorites!

It’s nice to see a ”real” survivor, a car that has not been painted and then called an un-restored survivor. Survivors do not have fresh paint. Survivors usually have a few battle scars.

Here’s a thorough list of all the things I would need to do to this car, if it were mine:

    1) Replace the white wall tires

    End of list.

While I agree on ditching the white walls you did see them that way back in the day. I believe the 69 GTO on “I Dream of Jeannie” had while walls or it was Roger’s Firebird 400 that had them with rally wheels.

Wow. If I were in the market this could be the one. So original, so honest. The serious buyer will want to give it an inspection, but if it’s as real as it looks, someone’s going to be smiling.

Love the millennial proof comment, except for my son (school bus driver and that I taught him to drive on a stick) none of his friends can drive a stick)

If I had the funds, this would be on a truck headed towards my house today. I wanted my parents to buy one of these in 69. But they bought a Camero instead. Dad hated that car and dumped it with 10K miles on it…

This is a real honest old goat, it has a few pimples, but who cares, a great survivor car. First glance and seeing the whitewalls, I expected an automatic, the 4 speed makes it that much nicer. I think the seller will do well.

After reading the ad, it appears that the car has never been driven in inclimate weather. Seller states that the wipers have never been turned on, nor has the top ever been lowered. I mean, why spend the extra $ for a convertible, and never put the top down ? If I were to buy this beautiful GTO, the first thing I would do, would put the top down, affix the boot, and enjoy the day, driving through the country !

Nice car, and I really mean that. Always a fan of the GTO, and all the cars that copied it, I get a sense this was owned by a mature person even new, the fact it has a four speed and hasn’t been demolished hints at that.
The green color is actually a time warp for me…remember all the green household appliances? Phones, refrigerators, ovens, it went on and on. I like this car but it doesn’t hit all the buttons for me.

Wow the current bit is $28099 and the reserve is not meet, what is this car really worth, we all know it is what someone is willing to pay but how high will this go.
