65,056 Miles: 1982 Jeep Wagoneer Limited

Jeep Wagoneers remain a seemingly blue chip-grade investment vehicle, with strong interest in clean examples like this 1982 model. The seller says this truck was an Arizona find, where it had been sitting for many years before being rescued and lightly restored. It shows just over 65,000 original miles, which the seller believes to be genuine. Some minor mechanical work has been completed, with a few more items to sort out. The Wagoneer is a Limited trim model listed here on eBay with bids to over $7K and no reserve.

The body on this truck looks great, and the dry climate of Arizona has certainly helped keep it rust-free. Sometimes, all that sunshine can have an adverse effect, and bake all of that woodgrain decor right off the sides. In this instance, living in Arizona has done it nothing but favors, as there’s no evidence of rust and the paint and woodgrain trim both look serviceable as-is. The seller notes new tires and a tune-up as recent mechanical improvements.

Under hood is decently clean for a truck that’s been sitting, with nicely matched paint on the inner fenders, factory stickers still adhered to the radiator support, and painted surfaces (like the air cleaner) not showing any signs of fade or ugly surface rust. The seller doesn’t specify which parts were replaced to help the Wagoneer start up and run strong, but I’m assuming it’s the usual assortment of tune-up parts like plug wires, cap, rotor, and fresh fluids and battery.

The interior looks great, and these Limited trim Wagoneers were downright opulent, even in 1982. The seller notes it is largely original, including the seats, carpet, and dash pad, but that some small items are missing. He specifically mentions a set of speaker grills gone rogue but doesn’t elaborate further; regardless, parts trucks abound, and you can likely find any missing pieces pretty easily. Bonus: the A/C still works! Great trucks that likely won’t lose value.

    Nice looking Jeep. I’m curious about the seats. Seller states original, but the inserts appear to be different. These will only increase on value

      The front inserts look aftermarket, but not new aftermarket. The factory corduroy was robust but it wasn’t indestructible.

    Gorgeous! Big fan of the headrest-less seats. Wagonmaster is likely bidding.

      Back in the day if the Feds didn’t require a particular safety feature, you didn’t get it. This was a “light truck” so, no headrests. Whether the customers might’ve wanted them (isn’t perceived safety a big selling point of big SUVs?) didn’t enter into it.

    I’m still trying to get my head around “Jeep Wagoneer” and “blue chip grade investment” being used in the same sentence…

    Wagonmaster advertises these things for $50,000. I worked on these new. Terrible handling and poor running engines. But Jeep are loved by many. They built SUVs long before the stupid name was coined.

      @George

      Having had three FSJs, I’d say the handling was solid…for what they are (and they’re definitely not sports cars). That old AMC V8 will run like a kitten without emissions equipment or, better, with even throttle body fuel injection, but I’d agree they ran like crap from about 1980 to the end in 1991.

    The Wagoneer was too fancy for us.
    We had a Scout!
    Cool rig here though, but if I were investing in childhood memories I’d be back in a Scout in a heartbeat if I could.
    Wish I could still share a photo to reminisce.
