66K Original Miles: 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS

This 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS looks like a very clean example that is attracting strong bidding at the moment, $22,600 currently on the board and a few days left in the auction. While we see these cars pop up every now and again, this one stands out for its clean cosmetics, low mileage, and later center console-mounted shifter. The seller claims a driveway dispute is triggering the sale, and it’s listed here on eBay in California.

That driveway dispute comment is an interesting one. My wife and I recently looked at a house with a shared driveway, and I had immediate concerns of an abutter taking issue with the cars I own. Everything I have is registered, drivable, and more or less attractive, but it doesn’t matter: some folks just plain don’t like anything that isn’t whisper-quiet and built within the last two years. I wonder what happened in the seller’s situation, as he cites a “…. lawsuit with neighbors over historic shared driveway” as being the motivation behind the sale.

This could also be a West Coast phenomena, as we have family friends who moved out of their house because a neighbor sued them for perceived errors in the property lines as originally drawn up the city. No joke: the neighbor was a high-powered attorney who could drown them in legal fees and did so knowing our friends would eventually have to move or give up their backyard. This happened in Washington State, so there must be something in the water. The seller’s Impala SS is in beautiful condition, and many enthusiasts tend to prefer these later cars with the automatic shifter assembly on the floor versus on the column, as in the earliest examples.

The Impala is not completely stock, with an obvious aftermarket intake and high-performance tires, but those things are generally par for the course. The seller notes he will include a CARB-certified cold air intake if the Impala hits its reserve price, which it obviously has. Recent maintenance includes over $3,500 of improvements, including the water pump, thermostat, power steering, and all fluids flushed (transmission, coolant, differential). This is a very pretty car and we hope the seller finds new neighbors or a suitable storage arrangement soon so they can stop selling special vehicles like this SS.

Sweet SS and engine is setup nicely. It’s a shame what car people has to go through in liberal California. Many years back they try to pass a law that any old cars I think under the year 2000 to be gone. That’s nuts!! Then again it’s California! Anyway this SS is in great shape I would love to own this. But no room at my house. I really hope the seller finds a nice new home for this SS and solve his driveway issues. 🇺🇸🐻🇺🇸

Always liked these and the 2000’s Mercury Marauders. The wife says they’re “Old man cars”. Guess what? I’m an old man! Lol

Another difference is the “95 model year had digital speedometer and gauges where the 96 has analog.
