Future Find: 6k Mile 2006 Dodge Viper SRT-10

While we tend to get nostalgic about the first-generation Dodge Viper, the third-generation model doesn’t get nearly as much love. I’m not saying we don’t know as enthusiasts that this is a formidable performance car; it’s more that it’s not as much of an item as other era of the iconic 90s muscle car. This 2006 SRT-10 has just 6,200 original miles and is listed here on eBay with bids to $50,800 and the reserve unmet.

The Viper is undoubtedly more coveted in hardtop form, but in some ways, the purest expression of the original modern muscle car was in open top form. And really, what better way to hear the 8.3L V10 ripping through the wind than in a car with a removable roof? I never cared for the wheel design of this generation – sorry, I will always be loyal to the period-correct tri-spokes of the first-generation models – but fortunately, they stuck with the side pipes on the later incarnation.

This Viper is obviously in turnkey condition, with little in the way of discernable flaws in the photos. Like most modern supercars, it seems many people kept these vehicles as future collectibles that could be easily flipped, but 6,200 miles is also a reasonable accumulation for a vehicle used on a weekend-only basis. The Viper resides in Florida, so rust is not an issue; the seller indicates there’s nary a spot of surface corrosion anywhere.

No matter how many times I lay eyes on a Viper, I’m always impressed by how much space the engine occupies. Seeing it from this angle, it actually makes me wonder how involved it is to get to the front of the engine. The seller reports it has a clean title, which is always a concern with a supercar in the hands of a mere mortal, regardless of the mileage. The reserve likely is still off by a far margin, so hopefully bidding picks up in the next 24 hours.

A good friend of mine worked as a mechanic at a luxury used car dealer about 10 years ago and got to drive one that was just picked up at auction and all he told me is they are wicked fast after he beat the snot out of it.Sound cool too. This one is a beauty but I’m not a fan of the color or the wheels like the author said .Nice car though.

Those TRI spoke wheels on the original Vipers were the only thing I despised, they looked so damn cheap and awkward
