77,000 Documented Miles: 1969 Plymouth Satellite

I love these “one owner, little old lady cars,” because so often they are in amazing condition. Sometimes. however, they can also look like the original owner has been “driving by Braille,” with not a straight panel to be seen anywhere. Thankfully, this particular car looks to have been owned and driven by a lady from the former category. It is not perfect, but it is in pretty good condition. You will find this Plymouth listed for sale here on Craigslist. It is located in  Omaha, Nebraska, and comes with a clean title. The owner has set a price of $14,500 for the Plymouth. Barn Finder Ikey H spotted this car, so a big thanks goes out to Ikey.

There’s no doubt that the car presents well. I have noticed a couple of issues that probably should be dealt with before they deteriorate. There are a couple of spots of rust appearing on the lower fender on the passenger side. I’m also not sure whether they may be some in this shot in the lower quarter panel on the driver’s side. It could also be a problem with the photo quality when I tried to zoom in on it, so I can’t be sure. There are a number of photos provided of the undercarriage and trunk floor, and there is no rust visible anywhere in the floors or frame.

The interior is in great condition, with only a couple of flaws. The dash and interior trim look good, and the back seat looks like it has never been used. What I did notice is that someone has cut the door trims to fit aftermarket split speakers. That’s disappointing because it has spoiled the look of an otherwise original interior. I’m not sure where the rest of the stereo is fitted, but I’m guessing that it is in the glove compartment.

This is the other interior flaw that will need addressing. You could probably throw a blanket over it, but with the rest of the trim looking so good, I would want to fix this fairly quickly. The other consideration is the fact that the longer that cover remains torn, the more that the padding material will deteriorate, so it is cheaper in the long run to fix it ASAP.

Under the hood is the numbers matching 318ci V8 and automatic transmission. The car is also fitted with power steering and air conditioning. The owner states that the car runs, drives, and stops well. This is hardly surprising, as the owner has documentation that confirms that the car has covered a genuine 77,000 miles. It’s nice to have a claim like this made with documentation to back it up, as we see these claims so often.

While this Plymouth isn’t perfect, it does seem to be in above average condition for its age. The fact that it is a 318 V8 car with factory A/C is a bonus, and the documented low mileage also helps the value of the car. Finding a good, original 2-door hardtop in this condition is getting difficult. I went searching for similar cars and found one of the same specifications and equipment levels as this car. The condition wasn’t quite as good as this one, and the mileage wasn’t as low, but it was priced at $16,000. That makes the price of this particular car seem to be quite reasonable.

Love it! As an owner of a ’68 Satellite, I’m admittedly a little biased.
I sincerely hope the new owner keeps it as a Satellite and not ruin it my turning it into a GTX or Road Runner clone.

And leave the 318 and front drum brakes alone, too.

Amen. Last thing we need is another fake GTX or Road Runner running around. Seems we already have more on eBay than originally were built!

I agree with that statement. Leave it alone and drive it every now and then!

Actually, if you install a dual plane aluminum intake, 600 cfm Holly, a mild camshaft, headers, a true dual exhaust, and a mild torque converter, it’ll be pretty quick and still original (you can keep the original parts). No reason to ruin this and turn it into some clone. The VIN won’t back that up anyway, unless you managed to pay for a VIN plate, fender tag and broadcast sheet off a GTX of course…..

Awesome car! My best friend’s parents had a 69 Sport Satellite sedan when I was in grade school. It was a bright blue inside and out and had a 383 v-8 under the hood. I think we both cried when it was t- boned in the mid seventies.
I’ve had a thing for 69 satellites ever since.

Finally a seller that removes the trunk mat when taking pictures of the trunk.

It looks like an honest car and seems reasonably priced, as long as it turns out to be as nice as it looks upon the completion of a hands on inspection. I’d look for previous rust repairs on the lower fenders and check to see if the drivers front fender has been repaired.

Agreed, perfect as is. I hope it’s preserved as original and enjoyed for what it is. 318 with air, really nice original car. A bit pricy, though.

Oh come on guys, that car needs a 440 big block and that 318 tucked in the corner of the garage for safe keeping!

It isn’t the right color, and it has a bench seat. The shifter is on the colum, it has wheel covers. There also is a hole in the seat. Just trying to act like some of the other cry babies that come on here.

The color really did throw me off. I love the great mopar colors from that time but this grey just looks amazing.

Convert to power front discs, redo the front seat, drive it forever.

Whenever I hear of or see a Satellite I can’t help but recall that B52s song Planet Claire. She drove a Plymouth satellite, faster than the speed of light. Planet Claire has pink air, all the trees are red, no one ever dies there, no one has a head. hahahahahahahhaaa..

Sorry…$14500 for a 318 column Auto…not that desperate…if it was a big block then I could see a price like that

As an owner of a 68 Satellite , i must say that I am impressed.

I think you can get replacement door panels if speaker holes are cut in old ones.

Nice car. That 318 is indistructible

Hate to say it but I’ll bet you’re looking at a future R.R. Maybe someone with real foresight will keep it as is. That would be the long term smart move!

Sweet car. Nice colors. Nice to see one “unidealized”. Can’t look at it without thinking of this…

Truth is that by todays standards ,a 383 or 440 really scares no one at all.Put a burbling exhaust on this thing ,and maybe some Cragars,Mag 500’s or TT D’s and have a lot of fun for 15 grand, just don’t go racing.

Nice car and I agree, keep it as is. Maybe put disc brakes on the front with of course a booster. Note: Top must come off to repair the rust under it before it gets out of control.

Leave it as is and fix the interior. Except- a nice 5.3 Hemi, 6sp auto and ride the wheels off. Don’t even change the wheels or tires. Something you can cruise forever comfortably. I’m in the process of restoring my 69 RR, so I don’t need another one. The car is beautiful.
