The third-generation Pontiac Firebird and its sibling the Chevy Camaro are well-established as affordable enthusiast vehicles with some decent upside. They’ve been underappreciated for years, likely a victim of their own success, meaning GM cranked out too many cars for it to ever be considered valuable. However, like most any car or truck, the first and final years tend to be a bit more sought-after, and that’s the case with this 1992 Pontiac Firebird convertible. This car is made even more desirable for having under 10,000 original miles.
To me, this is also one of the prettiest convertibles Pontiacs ever made. With the roof down, it’s like the rear panel is a mile long, and unlike some convertibles where the top bunches up behind the seats, the soft top is stowed away and completely obscured from view. Now, there’s an important distinction in the model range that is worth noting: the one you really want is the Firebird Trans Am convertible, of which fewer than 1,000 were made. The standard Firebird is certainly less of an item, but it’s still a model that doesn’t come up often with a soft top.
The standard-issue GM interior is holding up well despite being fairly uninspiring. Beige cloth, carpets, and door panels, and a black dash and center console remind you how low the standards used to be for interior quality. Although this Firebird would be even tastier with the optional Recaro interior, those seats are hard to find, and oftentimes already plundered and swapped out for base model seats. This Firebird could likely present even better with a thorough detailing, as it doesn’t “pop” like you’d expect for a car with under 10,000 original miles.
The 5.0L V8 looks quite clean under-hood, and this is where the car actually looks like a sub-10,000 mile example. The seller reports that there are no modifications, which is another huge selling point for a car like this as so many 90s muscle cars have at least a few low-quality modifications by this point. The Firebird is listed here on craigslist with a price of $22,999, which I’ve actually seen some Trans Ams sell for in the past – however, those cars didn’t have 9,800 miles on the clock. Would you pay this much for a survivor 3rd-generation Firebird? Thanks to Barn Finds reader numskal for the find.
That nose
I’d say overpriced!
Way overpriced.
The Iroc convertibles were really sharp 👌
A little overpriced but for 23″000. It’s a decent daily driver. Bonus drop top.
Too much $$$. Still, a decent looking automobile.
Don’t like the nose. My GTA didn’t cost that much new and had way more options. Nope, he might get 15k for it if lucky.
Nothing special about this car except it’s current condition. For this sellers ask I’d try to find a nice 2002/2003 Firebird Tran Am convertible. Red of course.
I personally had a blue one with gray interior and black top , loved for what it was but would never buy another one , it would have tobe a trans am for the add power but as stated earlier a fourth gen in the same price range is a better car
YOLO
