With the rise in popularity of off-road rally racing came the introduction of some of the ’80’s most impressive performance vehicles. Take the rather unassuming Toyota Celica. In its standard configuration, the ’88 Celica was fun to drive but wasn’t particularly impressive, but in All-Trac Turbo form, it brought rally-like performance to public streets. They didn’t build many of these all-wheel-drive homologation Celicas, and few, if any, are as low mileage as this one! It shows just 15,500 miles and is in fantastic condition inside and out. It’s being offered here on Barn Finds Auctions by its second owner.
The 4th generation Celica switched from Toyota’s rear-wheel-drive A-platform to their front-wheel-drive T-platform. The car received a rounded body and a new 4-cylinder engine. Toyota installed its 3S-GTE turbocharged twin-cam 2.0-liter engine to take the car rally racing. They also equipped it with full-time all-wheel drive, initially with an electronically controlled center locking differential and then a viscous coupling control locking differential. The setup was effective in rally racing and on the street!
The 3S-GTE engine was rated at 190 horsepower and 190 ft-lbs of torque for the North American market. This example’s engine is in good working order. The engine bay is immaculate and presents as a 15k-mile car should. Upon purchasing the car, the seller had the timing belt replaced, fluids flushed, a new battery installed, and new tires mounted.
The car retains its original interior and is also in impressive condition. To keep its driver well-planted, it is equipped with cloth-covered, manually adjustable sport seats. It also features its original 3-spoke steering wheel, cassette player, cruise control, automatic A/C, and rear window defogger.
The seller purchased this All-Trac in 2016 from the original owner. They’ve put about 700 miles on the car during their ownership. It’s been shown at several events and has won awards at Toyota Fest and JCCS. It retains its original window sticker, owner’s manual, and additional documents from when it was new.
If you grew up watching the World Rally Championship, you knew of the Celica All-Trac and how capable these cars could be. Unfortunately, only 9,767 of these hot Celicas were built. How many remain today? Who knows, but there aren’t many, and you likely won’t find another as original or clean as this one! Don’t miss out on your chance to own this ’80s icon. So, it clearly appears this is a 15k example that the seller bought from the original owner to flip. Why is there no documentation verifying the mileage is accurate?
The listing states the seller bought the Celica from the original owner in 2016, not a flip in my opinion.

I think I remember this Celica on Craigslist years ago with an asking price of between $14K to $15K. Stayed listed for a while and then I want to say it ended up with a dealer asking around $22K.
I could be wrong but a low mileage first-gen Celica All-Trac caught my eye at the time.
Bidding will be brisk for that near the end. Like many other sports coupes/hatchbacks of that era that car was about 10-20 years ahead of it’s time. As the old saying goes: “If I knew them what I know now…”
Those who wonder why their favorite opinion isn’t on every car should scope out that window sticker. $1100 for anti-lock brakes! hoo-wee!
My aunt had the gt version and I remember how she liked to be able to fold the rear seat down and put her German shepherd in the back and even though it was fwd it still was a quickish fun car.
Man, why didn’t I buy one of these when they were available new? Oh yeah, I had an ’86 MR2, that I was driving into the ground…

Toyota was on a roll then with sports cars. This model, the A70 Supra turbo, in 1989 the W20 MR2 turbo was released. Now they have to go to BMW to make a Supra.
The kids of today will never understand, how cool looking this car was back in 1988.
Hello I have a couple of questions for the seller. Firstly has the car ever either been in an accident or had any paint work done. Is the paint original.
Secondly, it shows the car is located in Los Angeles, does it have clear California title.

When these came out I was stoked. Turbo and All-Trac??? Cool!
Back then I had a 1990 Acure Integra GS coupe, with cold air intake ans changed out the muffler. They were like 130hp.
In the early 90’s on a sunny Sunday morning at 7:30am with no other cars on the road, I was at the Mass Turnpike toll booth and the only other car there was a Celica All-Trac. How perfect. I saw him, he saw me. We paid our tolls and both bolted out of the tooth booth at the same time and I was pulling on him when he let off after we hit 100mph.
The All-Trac is an awesome vehicle but it weighs almost 600lbs more than a Celica GT. That’s like adding 3-4 people in your car. That 190hp had a fair amount of extra weight to carry at around 3295lbs and my Integra was about 2600lbs. It still had a better weight/power ratio than my Integra but I pulled on that car. Depending what you read the times were close for 0-60 and 1/4 mile with the Celica being a little faster but not by much.
