A Minor Dilemma: Two or Three Morris Minors In NC

m2

Your dilemma, should you choose to accept it, is which one (or both) of these rounded little cars would you put back on the road? They are selling for $1,800 for the pair here on craigslist in Raeford, North Carolina. Actually, there is a third parts car mentioned as well, but there are no pictures of that one.

This is from a 1957 USA ad for the Morris 1000, usually termed the Minor in most markets. While at least one of the cars for sale is listed as a 1967, as you can see they didn’t change much! I’m not sure I would call the car either particularly rugged or frisky, but that’s me. I know when we lived in the UK for a couple of years in the 1970’s they were all over the road, since production ran from 1948 through 1971 and over 1.4 million were produced, there were plenty to see at that point in time!

The two door car pictured here has a clean title, so I’m guessing it’s the 1967 one mentioned in the ad. It looks relatively solid and has engine and transmission. I’m surprised to see how straight the front end is as those bumpers are typically missing and/or bent. Based on the washing away of the whitewalls, this one has been stored outside for a long time. The seller didn’t include interior or engine pictures of either car.

The four door car actually looks to have less rust, however that front bumper has been pulled out somewhat (I’m guessing dragging the car from one place to another. I’m hoping the third parts car can provide that vent window that may be missing in the passenger front. While the seller doesn’t tell us, both of these cars probably have the 1098 cc version of the A-Series four cylinder. It’s a little-known fact that the car was originally designed for a flat-four layout, but due to development issues and costs off the shelf engines were used. I’d love to bring these home if I hadn’t just purchased a group find (more to come on that later!) as they are fairly close to me. Anyone interested in them?

Four door back on the road. Lest rust, more rare, more practical, more fun all at once.

My grandfather had a 2 door minor that he tried to put roll bars in so he could do back flips in it without mashing himself but at the time he didnt have enough money so he sold the project.

Way back in my university days in ’60s England I had a split screen version of one of these. Paid £40 ($60?) for it. I was besotted with my girlfriend of the time and she suggested I cut of the roof and painted it buttercup yellow with poppy red wings (fenders) to make it look like the car driven by the children’s puppet character Noddy!
I did this and almost immediately the local kids started using it as a trampoline and climbing frame. It was ruined, and the police stopped me en route to college and called in an expert to decide if it was roadworthy plus searched it for drugs.
I scrapped the car and never had another one like it but I remember it as a great little fun car to drive, slow, but cheap to run and maintain.
