A-Team Tribute: 1982 GMC Vandura

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

There are some vehicles you simply automatically assume are located in the United States, owing to their heritage, design, or both. In the case of this 1982 GMC Vandura, a vehicle by and large associated with American truck and van shoppers, is made even more American-as-apple-pie owing to its tribute to the classic A-Team franchise. But if you thought this was parked in a garage on Long Island, you’re sorely mistaken as it resides in the delightful UK community of Little Melton. Now, this is the sort of vehicle you’d expect to see some background information offered on, but the seller doesn’t say much about it – but it does look like a sympathetic recreation, right down to the bash bar in the front. Find it here on eBay with bids to £6,155.00 and no reserve.

Now, that is not to say that the seller doesn’t give us plenty of details on its condition; rather, it’s more that I’d love to know how this A-Team tribute ended up there, and whether there’s a British family that loved the A-Team so much they either imported this from the states or decided to make their own. It’s not exactly a truck you’d see for sale at the local car park, but it’s also not terribly hard to make your own if you have a basic GM van to begin with. Now, this isn’t a perfect copy, as you can see it has the large vertical window on the passenger side and multiple windows down the driver’s side, whereas the actual vehicle used on television did not have any side windows at all.

It’s hard to see in the photos, but it does appear to have the correct lighter shade of gray above the black paint, separated by the red stripe going down the sides. The interior isn’t quite as I remembered it, but I haven’t found any conclusive photos to determine just how close this one gets (I will say, I don’t believe it had the custom roof panel with the A-Team’s name on it, but it’s been years since I watched the show). Regardless of how sympathetic it is to the original design, it’s safe to say someone put some real money into this conversion as the interior looks to be of a decent quality. When you see these TV or movie replicas, it’s pretty easy to tell it was a cheap and/or quick conversion; this GMC tribute appears to be better than the average show car replica.

Here’s a closer look at that rear panel – are there TVs back there? Or do those panels swivel around to reveal a handgun (fake or otherwise)? The seller notes that the van will need some bodywork, highlighting the areas around the rear wheel arches as well as around the windshield. There are plenty of extras included to continue building the A-Team tribute of your dreams, including bumpers, rear window louvers, spare headlights, and a set of five proper A-Team van wheels shot blasted and ready to be painted. The question is whether there’s another A-Team fanatic in the UK who wants to see this van through to completion, or will this tribute head to the United States to its home base? Would you bring it home?

Beautiful looking van. I remember The A-Team. Given its condition, I don’t know what its worth in British Pounds, but I’d pay close to $10,000 American dollars.

Nice van, but I think I can buy and build my own tribute cheaper than what it would cost to buy and ship this thing and bribe customs to get it here
