Affordable Exotic: 1959 Peerless GT

1959 Peerless Gt Front

With only a couple hundred Peerless GTs built, you would think it would be hard to find one for sale. Well we already featured one earlier this month and here is yet another. This 1959 Peerless GT comes in a bright red and is in a little better condition, but it is located up in Canada. Find it here on eBay with bidding at $1,575 and the reserve not met.

1959 Peerless Gt Side

The seller claims that the body was redone in 2004 and it does look great in the photos. These bodies were made of fiberglass which were stretched over a tube frame. We are more worried about that metal frame underneath than the body so we just hope it was gone through at that time too. One of the first things to go here would be those rims. We would try to find some wire wheels with black wall tires right away.

1959 Peerless Gt Engine

Here is the Triumph TR3 sourced engine. Again the seller claims it was rebuilt in 2002 and that it runs well now. Even if it didn’t run well, we wouldn’t be too concerned because this power plant is easy to work on and the parts are cheap and plentiful. The two liter four cylinder had plenty of torque to make the TR3 fun to drive so we are sure this thing is a blast.

1959 Peerless Gt Interior

Inside the seats and dash appear to be all original. The leather even looks great considering its age. It seems that the last owner started restoring this car from the outside-in. Fix a few problem areas under the hood, clean up the interior, and you would have a great driver. It looks like the original owners manual is even included.

1959 Peerless Gt Wings

The seller mentions rumors that this car was raced in New York, New England, and Canada. They don’t provide any solid proof to back those claims up, but it would be interesting to try to dig up some more details. Many of these cars were used in racing and many are still in use today. If there is any history here, the car would be worth even more to those interested in vintage racing it. Either way, we love the uniqueness of these British grand tourers. Being able to have something exotic with an affordable drivetrain isn’t a bad thing either…

    I think I would prefer the TR-3 engine with a TR-3 body.

Kinda looks like an MGB and Volvo mated :)

Did the springs give out or is that the stock ride height? Can’t be much travel there.

TR3 chassis like Healey was underslung I think, meaning there is no way to raise the chassis without the axle tube fouling the framerails.
