Celebrity owned vehicles has been used as a means to move inventory seemingly as long as used car dealers have existed, but some examples justifiably command a higher price than others. This 1996 Mercedes-Benz S600 coupe was owned by none other than Michael Jordan himself, whose profile has exploded once again thanks to a recent Netflix documentary. Having just watched this multi-part series, I came away impressed not only with aspects of Jordan I hadn’t appreciated previously when simply watching him on the court, but also for his impeccable taste in automobiles. Find his personal S600 here on eBay with bidding up to over $70,000 and no reserve.
That’s an impressive number for a high-mileage but nicely kept example of one of Mercedes’ prettier coupes made in the last thirty years, but the connection to Jordan is everywhere: on the title, in the period car phone LCD screen, and obviously in photos that show the greatest of all time (sorry, Kobe and LeBore fans) stepping into his ride after practice. It even made a brief appearance in the aforementioned Netflix presentation, further eliminating all doubt that this V12-equipped coupe was parked at the arena and practice facilities on a regular basis. Throughout the series, Jordan was seen driving a Porsche 911 Turbo slantnose cabriolet; Ferrari 550 Maranello; Corvette C4 ZR-1; Range Rover HSE 4.6; and more.
Perhaps what’s most intriguing about this Mercedes is that it was actually used. There’s over 157,000 miles on the clock. Most of the time, celebrities use a car for a few miles – literally – and then turn it in, especially as more high-end car dealers see more value in their inventory used as promotional tools than an actual sale. Jordan came from an era of wanting to celebrate his achievements but also enjoy what he owned for what it was capable of, and not whether it would land him in some social media tycoon’s Instagram feed for a few extra “influencer” points. Yes, of course, MJ did plenty of deals with McDonalds, Nike, and the countless others, but when it came to his cars, he clearly drove what he liked with no allegiance to a particular brand or dealership chain.
The Mercedes sports some fairly loud Lorinser wheels, which is entirely appropriate for the era in which the S600 existed. If you wanted the baddest Mercedes on the block, you bought one with a V12 and then turned to Brabus or Lorinser to see what they could do to make it louder, whether in visually or under the hood. No word on whether that’s a performance exhaust or just some nicely integrated chrome tips, but I don’t see those features stopping anyone who wants to own one of the ultimate pieces in Jordan memorabilia from bidding. Had I known that this Netflix series was in development, I may have waited on listing my remaining MJ basketball cards on eBay, but hey – I had car parts to buy.
It’s now over a hundred thousand. I can’t imagine this would sell for much more than 10,000 without the celebrity provenance. But I guess it is indeed the ultimate piece of Jordan memorabilia.
Now up to 125k. 7 days to go. People are throwing oodles of cash at this! Wow.
177k now. Like the vehicle’s former owner, these bidders are competitive and want to win. They also probably have a lot of money on their hands like MJ did. I wonder if it’ll get up to a million?
..if I could be like Mike…
Per a newscast, a pair of his sneakers sold at auction last week for $615,000.
True but the sneakers do not bring the risk of a $1,500 ignition module, $1,200 mass airflow sensor, and $1,000+ active body control pump replacements.
At this bidding level those costs shouldn’t matter and at least the car is useful. Doubtful the sneakers will fit and be laced up to go shoot some hoops.
Pray tell who is this LeBore fella you speak of?
Lebron.
It was a typo.
Happinz to the bezt uf uz.
Actually I think the original spelling was plenty accurate.
As always his car is worth what someone will pay for it..if I were able to I’d buy it and drive the crap out of it the same as Michael did..drive and enjoy instead of putting it away and leaving it be..as far as Mr. Jordan..he is an amazing man self made
A fool and his money are soon parted!
Is Mercedes leather that good that the driver’s can still look new after almost 25 years & that many miles?!!!
Odd the V12 here on a Benz would not have exhaust outlets on both ends of the back of the car.
I guess for “special” owner security purposes, California’s(any other states’?) DMV allows titles of cars owned by Celebrities to show a PO Box instead of an actual address?!! What about registrations & driver’s licenses??!! What if a celeb goes beserk behind the wheel?
Why is there a MPG!(ridiculous!) gage on a high end car?! lol
Would rather see a voltmeter than that.
Can imagine the “Power On JORDAN” phone display is really exciting people. Think of being a fan and seeing that come up every time you turn the key. I’m not into all that but I can see how something that cheesy would attract the mice!
Up to $129,000
I have never understood why someone would pay significantly more money for anything just because of who once owned it.
Wow. Almost $140.000
Totally amazing the M B interiors are made so well. Looks like the car has had above normal maintenance, but still, that’s an amazing interior. I’ve ridden in several M B models and have always admired how robust the materials and switchgear were. You pretty much have to try to year one up.
Sold by BHCC – LMAO!
Someone is getting duped out of big dollars.
Now $177,200 and six days left.
Let’s see if it exceeds this …

For what it’s worth (a lot less fyi) here is a ’96 Lorinser, owned by a mere mortal and with a hundred thousand fewer miles on it for $22,500 OBO…

Personally I would buy this and console myself with $280,000 or so i would save, knowing I was Almost like Mike.
