Occasionally, there is hyperbole in listings about what a great survivor a particular specimen is. But in the case of this low-mileage 1968 Ford Mustang, it appears to be a real-deal survivor that has remained in unbelievably good condition with loads of documentation. The seller notes it has less than 35,000 miles from new, and that “…every inch of the car is stock.” It comes with 289 V8 and automatic transmission, and even the radio remains the factory-installed unit. It should be no surprise it’s a California black plate example, and it’s listed here on eBay with bidding up to $19,200 and no reserve.
The coupe body just looks good here, perhaps a little better than normal, no doubt helped by the fact it remains in factory condition. The hubcaps, the bumpers, the vinyl roof – all of it serves to remind you why the Mustang took the world by storm when first introduced. It was downright pretty, but we can forget than when so many today are modified to look like replica Shelbys or otherwise hopped up. The plain-jane V8 coupe is a beautiful thing, and there’s nothing I would change about its appearance. The chrome looks to be excellent, and the body looks super straight going down the sides. The paint is said to be original, and the Mustang has had just two owners from new.
For a car that looks this good from the outside, it’s no surprise the interior is equally as nice. And what a great color combo, too. The seats, door panels, steering wheel, and dash all show no flaws. The gauge faces still look crystal clear. The owner’s manual, window sticker, temporary registration cards, and more are all included in the sale. This really does seem like the kind of car with no disappointments, as it seems pretty clear to me there’s been no restoration work performed anywhere, with the seats simply looking like well-preserved originals, and the same sentiment for the paint job. Mileage is listed as being just 32,890, and the condition on display follows suit.
The 289 is an ideal compromise of being far more engaging than the six cylinder cars but obviously not a fire-breather like a Mach 1 or Shelby variant. Still, not every Mustang needs to be the next showcase at Barrett-Jackson, and cars like this just stand out on their own, regardless of the selling platform. The Mustang is said to be just as clean underneath, with the listing stating that the trunk floor and frame rails are like new. The only downside to a car like this is that it’s so nice, you’d be afraid to park it anywhere that might result in damage that requires its original paint to be altered. All that said, I’d still be fine with just starting at it in my garage every night.
As a GM guy, I REALLY like this….many performance upgrades available, if you wanted too. Wheels, tires…all could be changed…
But, really – why would you need too?

All Mustangs were made to modify. Carroll Shelby would be the first to tell you that.
A nice stock looking car, but not all original. I would question the original paint claim, the drivers fender looks darker than the door and rear quarter. It might be an old repair, but the paint doesn’t appear 100% factory.
And the license plates are not the original black plates, those are the Legacy plates that the DMV is currently issuing.
But overall, still a nice car, should be an easy sale.
I had an original 68 Mustang I bought in 1993. 289 & automatic like this one. It was all there but it had over 100,000 miles on it when I got it and I put another 100,000 on it as a daily driver for the next 10 years. I loved that car. This car is fantastic. I would put A/C and disc brakes on it and see how long it would take to put 100,000 miles on this one.
Check out the window sticker, it is a factory disc brake car! That’s a big plus for it already. Tinted glass, too, so the A/C you would add won’t have to work so hard. Has a nice under dash CD with rear deck speakers that aren’t obnoxious.
This is a car to buy right here. Cant go wrong.
It would be fun to buy it, fly out, and drive home.

The car is over 50 years old!!! What do you want? Factory freshness??? Richard Nixon could have parked his ass on that fender. In 50 years most cars are now part of college dorm room lamps, hot water heaters, Japanese engine blocks, cheap sunglasses and railroad spikes in Brazil. I am more amazed that kids today know what the car is. They damn sure don’t know what the engines were. “Is it a 302?” I ask. “No, it’s a five-oh!” the DA kid responds. “You know a five liter.” God help him if I would tell him its really a 4.9 liter. Or even worse 4.94889 liter

Very nice car. Currently bid to an even $20,000. I think that is all the money for this car, but if I win the mega-millions lottery tonight, I would probably tender a few bids until I would win. I just like this car, and if money were no object…..

Buy this car and go buy a new fastback body shell. Poof and a lot of busted knuckles later you will be standing in front of a practically new car, wiping the grease from your hands with a red rag, that you will know everything about and it is a fastback that is worth a whole lot more.
This SOB has a bench seat in it. It has spent all its life in California and it still has it’s bench seat in it. What a find.
I as looking for someone to notice the bench seat. I’m not a big fan of the bench, especially with a floor shifter, but it is a really rare item.
This is more like it for $20k-a nearly perfect 1968 Mustang you can actually drive without investing a ton of additional cash and several years of your life. What a novel concept!!
Hey, for just 10k more you could own the 1972 Mercury Comet. It just shows how foolish people can be. This is a very nice ride and one you would want to be seen in. Sweet car, not overdone or overpriced.
Clean and very original which is great not to be cleaning up someone else’s hack job!! No body work to be done but the fact is that it is a base model with I low hp 289 and the automatic transmission!! I myself couldn’t keep it that way I have to go faster and handle better then late 60’s technology!! I know this isn’t what a purist would do but all of what I do could always be changed back to stock!!!
Not really a base model , that would have been a six cylinder with a std trans , no ps , drum brakes , no vinyl top and dog dish hubcaps. This was a high line model
Are they mentioning the black plates? The ones on it are personalized and new…original black plates for that car should start with a v or w…
