This Chrysler Conquest is my personal car and I know I’m going to regret letting it go! I’m always on the hunt though and another car caught my attention. This Conquest has to be one of the nicest examples left out there. It’s also from the last year of production so it benefits from all the improvements made over the years. It hasn’t been modified and includes a ton of hard to find spare parts. It’s located in Boise, Idaho, and is listed here on eBay where the reserve has already been met!
I purchased this car from the second owner who loved it like his own child. He never drove it in inclement weather, kept up on all the maintenance, and stashed away a ton of spare parts just in case he ever needed them. After 27 years of ownership, the time finally came to let it go. An ad was placed on craigslist and that’s where I saw it. When I arrived to take a look, I was awestruck. This thing was in amazing condition and I knew I couldn’t leave without it.
His full asking price was paid and a week later, he dropped off a truckload of parts. Not that I’ve needed any of them. The car is in amazing condition and the engine runs great. That 2.6-liter turbocharged engine pulls hard when you get on it and the car is very agile in the corners. The clutch is very easy to engage and the 5-speed shifts smoothly. The beeping of the roof-mounted radar detector reminds you to take it easy and the bright yellow paint lets everyone know you’re driving something special!
Talking about paint, the car has been resprayed but you’d never know if I didn’t tell you. The previous owner spent a lot of time hunting for the perfect painter to do the job and found one at a Chrysler dealer. The respray was done a couple of decades ago and it looks factory fresh. There are no tape lines or overspray that I can find. The previous owner did add some stick-on rubber trim to the wheel lips and doors but that can be easily removed.
The inside is just as amazing as the outside! The seats are wear and tear-free. Even the original floor mats are in decent condition! The dash doesn’t have any cracks and the back seat doesn’t look like it has ever been sat in. Everything works as it should including the digital climate control system. The previous owner removed the belt from the AC compressor though. They had purchased a replacement hose for one that was leaking but never got around to replacing it. After replacing it and having the system recharged, the air conditioning should work again.
As a kid, I had a poster of a Mitsubishi Starion on my wall so it has been exciting to experience the American version of that car! Everyone should feel the surge of that turbocharger spooling up and the kick of power that follows. You feel like you are driving a supercar when you’re in this thing! Actually, it even looks exotic sitting on the street. I can’t think of too many other cars that can provide more physical and visual thrills for the money. Hopefully, it will go to a good home where the next owner will continue to care for the car and enjoy it.

Where did I say I owned it for 4 years? The previous owner had it for 27 years before selling it to me. I don’t daily drive it so I didn’t see any need to spend money on AC. If I can find some time this week, I may replace that hose and see if the system will hold a charge.
I’ll make it simple, How long Have you owned it? Have you done the required maintenance items during your ownership?
I’ve owned the car for a few months and have just detailed it. The service was all up to date when I got it. Are you actually interested in bidding or are you just busting my chops?
Why sell it?
If money and garage space were unlimited, I wouldn’t.
Had 2 different 88’s, one red the other exactly like this car in San Marino yellow.
At the time I also had a 91 ZR-1 Corvette, an 06 GTO, and whenever a road trip came up, the Conquest was first choice. Beautiful one here worth all the bid.

Always liked these cars. Back in the 80’s I was considering one versus a Mustang GT. I went with the Mustang.The Conquest/Starion was actually more expensive, and how can you argue with a V8?

I had a black 88 I bought off the back of the transport heading to the auction for $800 in 1997 and it had a cracked manifold w a slight exhaust leak but I loved that car black on black, the flared fenders, so sharp so fun and rear wheel drive.
Nope. I don’t daily drive the car and have been too busy with this site to do it myself. Plus, I live in a virus hot spot so taking it to a shop to get recharged was not on the top of my priority list. Thanks for trying to make me look bad though.
Other than turbo what does tsi stand for?

When these came out some of them were painted a medium blue pearl color. At the bodyshop I painted at, many people that brought their car in for a color change wanted their car painted that blue. People loved that color.
Tom, I believe that color was called Atlantic Blue Metallic
The Mitsubishi Conquest name for blue was Fiji Blue Metallic, it was a stunning rich blue that caught the light perfectly. I think it’s the same blue that you are talking about. I liked it so much I painted my 1974 Saab Sonett that color—I still own it and have a nice photo, but alas Barn Finds doesn’t let you post pictures in the comments section :-(
I didn’t fix the ac because I don’t daily drive the car and I live in a virus hot spot so taking it to a shop to get the system recharged wasn’t a top priority. Considering the way the previous owner cared for the car, I have no reason to not believe what he told me.
Why list on eBay!! Spend $50 and put it up for sale on a good site like Barn Finds. 😉

I don’t know if it’s just me but if memory is correct the original station came out in late 82 as an 83 model, along with the equally interesting Cordia and Tredia. That means the design and engineering for this car was done probably from 1979 to 1982. It’s simply amazing to me how fresh the styling is, even 30 to 40 years later
The body angles and curves simply look fast even when sitting still. Even the interior looks modern up to today.
When I was in high school back in the mid 80s I can’t think of a single 30 year old car that still looked fresh at that tim.
Beautiful car and I wish I had more space. Hopefully the new owner will appreciate it and not butcher it.
